I've been getting a black screen with this error message, "Disc read error" Restart Ctrl+Alt+Del.
When I press Ctrl+Alt+Del I wait a while then a black screen appears again and says, "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key."

So I manually turn off the computer, wait a few seconds and the same error messege, "Disc read error" shows up again. So again I press Ctrl+Alt+Del, wait a few seconds, and this error messege appears, "Error loading system".

I manually turn the computer off again, start it back up, and the computer starts up fine. What is going on? This all started after playing one of my pc games after the game freezed.

It happened every time I boot up the pc, what's going on?

My pc is a non-geniune XP professional 32bit.

What other info should I put up about my PC? Sorry but I'm not a computer expert (otherwise I would deal with this situation myself).

This seems to be a pretty common problem. It could be a major system error so what you should do is just read around and see what others do it could be a fairly simple fix. And most likely what tomshardware says is "So you receive the dreaded "a disk read error occurred. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart". Multiple restarts result in the same error message.

If you put your drive into another computer, or connecting it as a slave on your own computer, it will typically work fine, and no data is missing.

Because this error is not usually associated with data loss, DO NOT RE-PARTITION THE DRIVE. Your data is likely safe and sound.

Here's how we'll recover your data. Try each step below, in order, and see if your drive becomes accessible after each step. In my experience, you won't start seeing results until step 5 or so. "

it ought to nonetheless be the onboard photos chip has failed. I doubt that although reason it may in many situations have no image on the demonstrate screen or might have any dissimilar variety of blocks, lines, streaks or something which includes that. Plus in case you probably did no longer have a password on the computing device and it may oftentimes pass in the present day into dwelling house windows and the initiate sound replaced into nonetheless on you may nonetheless pay attention it. My suggestion could be disconnect each and every thing no longer mandatory like the optical force and floppy force or the different peripherals you're transforming into and attempt it. achievable the irritating force has long gone undesirable. perchance the PSU is undesirable?
