Can a computer works without operating system?

Question

my fiancee and i discuses a lot abut that can computer work without operating system or not.. i told that it can't work and he said it can...?? so what is right..

the computer will work on Basic Input and Output System generally called as BIOS..... but u should have an operating system its of ur wish to choose from MS DOS to Windows 7 or else u can use MAC or LINUX .to make a correct use of it ..... .............u should have an operating system to make a correct use of it

You can check the BIOS, by just typing in F2 right after the boot ( I am not quite certain if you can access it without OP ). And in that BIOS you can see what kind of hardware you have and if its operational. Other then that, you can visually check if you got everything inside like RAM, processor or other components. Those items are easily to remove and can be sold separately. But if everything is there it is most likely that the computer will work with a new OP system.

It can't be usable anyway, it will 'work' as much as it will switch on, but you can't use it without an OS

It doesn't have to have an installed OS to work though, you could boot a Linux live CD or one installed to a USB flash drive.



So the answer is Yes and No if you're pedantic, but it's NO in the real world

Sure it can start up but it can't do anything but tell the time...

It'll start up fine and it"ll run fine. It'll run really quickly....... in a thing call BIOS. That is all it'll do. You can get free OS's like Linux though

Why yes it can, if you download and burn a Knoppix cd. Pop that into the disk drive and turn the pc on and BAM .

the program belongs to MICROSOFT even though you paid

but u paid only to USE IT-- crazy stuff
