Why is my fan controller making my PC freeze?

I've been having a very annoying issue with my PC. I built PC almost two years ahgo but recently bought a much better case for space reasons. The problem is, when I use the fan controller on the case, my OS freezes up and i have to manually reboot.. Here are my system specs:

NZXT Phantom 530 (The case)
ASUS Sabertooth 990FX (Motherboard)
750w Antec PSU
windows 7 pro
I don't think the rest will matter. I am unsure of why the fan controller is causing. Could it be like a protection sort of thing on the board? I would think if it was it would just power down instead of freeze.

I haven't tried it with any other OS's, because that a lot of work, and google has not aided me with this either

What confuses me is that the controller doesn't even connect to the motherboard, it connects to the psu and that's it.

So if anyone has any idea as to what could be causing this, I would really appreciate you input.

I'm confused on the age of the PSU. PSU can cause the problem but I think you may have a grounding problem. The PSU Case, Motherboard, All the internal drives need to be well grounded to the computer case at their mounting screws. Try going thru the whole computer case and loosen each mounting screw a little and re-tighten them.

If that does not, then you should shutdown the computer and try unplugging everything you do not need to get windows to fully load and be able access the basic window software like pictures, control panel, etc. If their is no problems, then plugging one of the items that was unplugged like a DVD drive. Try running a disc for a minute. ok? do another & so on. If the problem shows up, it is probably the PSU not being able to power everything, anymore.

There are bad SATA Cables out there. They make bad connections to the Motherboard. I had to replace 2 of them in my computer. Thats what I get for buying cheap brand SATA cables.

the fan controller is pre -wired to the motherboard only thing it needs is power from the psu to work could be a defective fan controller , the best way is to leave it unhook from the psu if the pc doesn't freeze up then it's the controller
