I have a Dell Dimension 2400. I maxed out the memory about a week ago to 1gb. I was having internet problems prior to the install. The computer seemed to run fine after the install, except the internet. Now I was on the computer, and a blue screen came on and said that there was a memory issue and that if it wasn't taken care of, it could be fatal. I do not know what the problem is.

Computer Specs and whats been done: Dell Dimension 2400 xp home, AOL dialup internet (all my area offers right now). Have replaced the modem and redid the entire computer starting with the operating system. Checked all device managers to ensure everything was working. Installed an older version of AOL, then replaced RAM.

If anybody knows how I can get this computer too work smoothly it would be greatly appreciated. I intend to buy a laptop soon, but wont be able to for a few more months. However, I need it to work now because I run my business from the computer (internet required). Thank

Did the blue screen say you had a memory issue or did it say it was doing a "memory dump"? A memory dump has nothing to do with the memory. A memory dump puts a log of the problem into the "event viewer" stating what the computer was doing when it crashed. Could be caused by the ram but it could be caused by anything else too. Chances are that your dialup service is bad--The further you get from the phone companys central office the slower a dialup runs. Defective phone lines are the major cause of dialup probs. I used to be a phone man and also installed DSL. The condition of the phone line is critical. If you hear static or other people taking in the background then somethings wrong with your line and thats whats effecting your dialup. Getting a brand new laptop wont change that. Call your telephone repair service and ask for a "line test only" Should call from your cell phone or a neighbors phone because your line needs to be idle to do the test. Call AOL support--You pay them for a service and part of that service is helping you keep your internet up to snuff.

Sometimes RAM is very fickle. Have you tried re-seating the RAM? (Just open up your computer, take the piece out, and put it back in. Do the same with the other one). Or it could be the wrong type of RAM. But sometimes even the brand can cause issues. Try a different brand or something, if possible. Also, try changing the order in which the RAM is placed. For example, if you have one piece in slot 1, then move it to slot 2 and switch the other one to slot 1. Things like that sometimes work.

Blue Screen error is usually due to faulty RAM. Unplug your RAM sticks, clean with dry brush/cloth, also clean the RAM slots and re-plug the RAM sticks. Restart your computer, still if you face same problem, have an assistance of a good hardware vendor !

YOU AHVE THE WORNG MEMORY INSTALLED.....check to make sure you pc's man bored will support the " NEW" memory you installed, also if it does, REMOVE the OLD memory, try not to mix old ram with new ram, ulless you are sure the clock speed is the same ex: 433-866mhz, the bored might hold both, but clock issus between the two cause errors...but more then likely its one of three problems

1) bad ram chip

2) bored does not support you "new" ram

3) mixing old ram with new ram on two different clock speed

try them out, remove you old ram and just use new ram, see if that works....oh and the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH its called ! !

Maybe the ram wasn't seated properly,or the more likely problem would be dust in the tray where you placed the new ram.Pull it back out and either blow the tray out with compressed air or use a vacuum.

Download and run spybot and superantivirus.

Log into www.crucial.com and let the site do a scan of your system, it will tell how much, what type and what you can upgrade to
