I could be wrong but it sounds like the drive is about to break. If you hear any ticking sounds it's a sure sign the drive is on it's last leg. Try to hook it up to a friends computer - if it works fine on the other machine you might have loaded a new program that is conflicting with the drive. It's not much but somewhere to start. good luck

RE:

External Hard Drive Files Not Showing Up (Mac OS X Mavericks)!?

Hey Guys I need a bit of help.

I purchased a MacBook Pro today and I'm over all very happy with it. I did run into one problem though, when I was trying to copy the music I had stored on my old computer onto my new one via an external hard drive, some of the files and or folders have not been...

1. Make sure thats the actual drive.

2. Make sure the folders are not hidden in the properties (right click folder)

3. Uninstall the harddrive driver from computer restart and plug it back in.

Step 3 is sure to fix.

You can download ccleaner for free here: http://bit.ly/1Bk5V5C

First open CCleaner

Go to the Cleaner tab and you will be confronted by a very confusing lineup of checkboxes.

To make this brief, below is my recommended setup:

Under internet explorer check temporary internet files, cookies, and last download location. Most users don't really need this stuff. keep history and bookmarks unchecked, history is a maybe, but you don't want to lose bookmarked sites. You can normally leave Windows Explorer, System, and Advanced alone.

Run CCleaner and it will start deleting files.

afterward it will present you with a list of the files deleted, you really don't need to go through it as it will be several pages long.

The registry cleaner is recommended for slightly more advanced users. Use it after uninstalling programs as they will often leave behind incorrect registry entries.

If you decide to run Registry cleaner then review the items detected and always back up the registry (I keep a folder aside for this)

The Tools tab lets you uninstall programs and set startup programs. Why do you need this if Windows has all of these features? Especially with Vista Home Ed. The windows defender software explorer( startup programs) doesn't pick up some entries (however software explorer is easier to use).

Using CCleaner to uninstall programs and then check for leftover registry entries takes less time.

Under Options you can determine how CCleaner cleans your files. I leave this alone.

Hi,

In my opinion Ccleaner is the number one tool for cleaning your pc. I've been using it for more then a year now and it works very well. You can grab your free copy here http://bitly.com/UrAQM6

It's a really nice software.

If your old computer was a PC then there may be translation issues between the files and formatting it may be necessary. Run Migration Assistant if you haven't already. This should transfer the files successfully for you.

DO NOT format. NTFS is fine for copying files (Mac OS cannot SAVE to it, but you are not yet trying to save.)

Your just not looking hard enough.

In Mac OS, look along the top of the Finder window for the "View" choices (They are not seen in your posted image, because you didn't include much of anything.) Click the one for "As Columns". Now you can see all those folders. In Mac OS, files and folders are not separated into two groups. They are simply alphabetical. If you have a file called "Stuff.jpg" and a folder called "Stuff", the file would be just below the folder, since the ".jpg" makes it alphabetically later.

For even more forehead slapping, open this page–> http://macoptions.com/osx/finder10-4.html

and scroll down to the paragraph that begins "By default the Finder is in Icon View."
