Hi folks

My sisters little 2 yr old loves repeatedly pressing the power button on her Dell inspirion PC causing it to go to safe mode next time she turns it on.

Is there a way of turning the computer on a different way so that when he presses the button it does not turn the computer off? maybe a key sequence or something else? any ideas and how to do it will be appreciated.

Thanks

Yes you can change it.

goto the control panel,

select hardware and sound,

then select power options,

in the left bar, you will see, " choose what the power buttons do"

you can have it set, so that all the power button does, is turn the computer on, by setting the power button to nothing.

On a PC running Windows's Vista, go to the Control Panel - Power Options and on the left hand side on the blue bar there is an option that says "Choose what the Powere Button does". Click this and select "Do Nothing" from the options. This will stop the power button from shutting down the computer, but will not stop it turning it on. To shut the computer down safely, just press Shut Down in the Start menu.

Hope this helps.

If its a laptop, then all the answers before mine will fix the problem. If your computer is a PC (as you say in your question), then there i'm not sure if they will (i've never had to mess with the power button function on a pc). If it doesn't fix the problem, then you need to find your motherboard manual. When you open your computer case you will see two strands of wires coming out of your power button, these are connected to the motherboard. If you unplug these 2 from the motherboard, the power button is useless... Which fix's your problem, but creates a new one: How to turn the computer on. You can substitute your reset button for this, by simply unplugging the 2 wires coming out of your reset button (at the motherboard) and then plugging them back into where your power button went. This means your reset button will function as a power button and your power button will just be a useless toy for your 2 year old :)

step1:

Open the Dell support page on your Internet browser. See the Resources section for a link. Make sure to have your seven-digit alphanumeric (letters and numbers) service tag. Place that information into the "Choose by Service Tag" option.

step2:

Make sure that the option for the "Operating System" is correct.

step3:

Go to "+Bios" and click on the "+" symbol. Click on "Download" at the far right, save and run the downloaded file.

step4:

Restart your computer after installing the file.

step5:

Test the "Power-saving" feature once you have rebooted.

The purpose of the power button is to turn on/off the computer, so no, there is not a way to disable it's function.

No, the modem is being assigned the IP handle immediately, by making use of DHCP, while it restarts. except you are able to hook up with the modem making use of a close-by IP (purely some enable this), there is probable no thank you to restart it making use of utility. further, there is not any assure you will get a sparkling IP once you restart the modem. you're able to be able to correctly be assigned the comparable one lower back.
