Would a (512) memory card fix the problem, or does he need to but a new computer with the latest windows version?

Most software today will not be 98 compatible. You might want to get an upgrade to Windows XP in addition to some hardware upgrades. You know what, Dell's are really cheap - it just might be best off getting a new one.

because most software these days are not built for windows 98. Usually it is built or designed for windows xp. Before you buy your software, check the label on the side of the box or speak to your friendly IT guy. Chances are your not going to find software built for windows 98.

Many new software simply wont work with Win 98.
Any way from a security perspective Win 98 is v.v.v. unsecured while connecting to the network or Internet. MS has stopped supporting it altogether.

you will have to install a newer version of windoes like XP then is should work. if he wants to install the software for windows 98 then see if the software is available for that operating system.

If you'll check the box that the software comes in it will have a "Minimum system requirement" listed.

it's not the memory's problem, tell him to install the new operating system, try to install Windows XP.

I have to agree with Systemofadd. One of my pc's is running Windows 98SE and it is still going strong.
