Question:
Graphics Card for Vaio Desktop?

My step-dad owns a Sony Vaio VGC-LA3 (desktop pc) which recently wouldn't boot up properly.

There were red or green lines down the screen and all the colours were distorted. When booting up in normal mode it never reaches the login screen, just stays blank. It does boot up in safe mode however and I installed the latest graphics driver but no change.

I assume this is a broken graphics card since other checks didn't show up any other problem.

I've never taken apart this type of computer since the unit is all built in the monitor, I can't find any info on the net about how it comes apart. Also, I am unsure which type of graphics card to get, since the unit is built in the mintor will it require anything special or will any desktop pc card work?

Any help appreciated! :)

They're like laptops - extremely difficult to service. Also, this is apparently a known issue with it, and people have been unable to get it fixed... service costs about as much as the computer did.

I did quick search for service manual, I found one for $10. On other web site, there is known problem with video card, Sony is servicing the computer for free to replace the card. I found out there is no easy way to open the case. The only people with key are working for Sony repair shops.

I found no information about the card, like is the card slot a PCI-e?

... Your question is kinda self-contradicting. in case you want to play video games, the final like minded card is incredibly which you would be able to handle to pay for would be greater advantageous for an improve. the main inexpensive card is barely going to aid you play the oldest video games. What video games are you watching enjoying? think of of it THAT way, then settle on which card you could handle to pay for.
