Windows Internet Explorer is one of the worst browsers ever. I would recommend downloading Firefox, Safari, Opera or Google Chrome instead. The problem you describe could be caused by an update on your Norton security system, and could cause problems with other internet browsers also. To check if this is the problem, you need to turn off or disable your security software and try to get onto the internet with Internet Explorer again. If everything works OK with the security off, you know that Norton security is the cause. It will not harm your computer to turn off the security for a few minutes to check this. I have had similar problems in the past with Kaperski and Virgin security. Hope this helps.

A server is, in simple terms, a massive hard drive. It allows you to save information on it from other computers that are connected to it. It also has to have a server OS on it. You might be able to use that computer for a server but you might want a faster processor and about 2 terabytes of hard drive space. That will make a decent server. However be careful when building a server. It is very tricky and can be harmful to the computer if you mess up.

well unless you want your own website, or back up your files, theres realy no point in turning it into a server.

if you do want to make it a server then you should download the server version of ubuntu, a free form on linux. you cant make it a server and have windows. heres some unbuntu stuff on servers

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Servers

and the link to the unbuntu site

heres a guide to making a server

i would just use that computer for fun stuff. being a total nerd i personally would try out diffrent versions of linux, try solaris etc.

any normal non uber geek person could just use it for internet use. its plenty fast for that if you dont have a big operating system on it like vista. with the ram upgrade its not going to be to incredebly useless, i have a realy old dell that has 1, 1ghz processor and 128mb of ram, and its still usable for internet, although its realy slow. im sure yours could easily do stuff like that. you may be able to do world of warcraft and other low graphics games on it.

if you got it used from like ebay or a garrage sale, i recommend crashing it (or reinstalling windows/whatever operating system u want). it will be much faster with a clean install.

looks fine for me i can use it for experiments for projects for printing umm anything for my college etc

if u wanna use it for server i can give some tips

servers are used to put big information on it and exchange it using the server and it must be extremely fast for communication etc so i dont think ur pc can handle this the only thing that this pc can handle is using gaming servers well i guess BUT u must install linux not windows good luck

I have an older server that we have been using as a regular second computer for years. If its got all the necessary components then you can use it as you would any other computer.

Slow down their. sounds to me it was hook to a thin client so their no well guts to the computer and you cant really do anything to it. basically it was hook to a server at the company and their not extra hardware in the computer. like schools use in their computer labs that's how they buy so many computers because their nothing in them really

you dont need a server (storage for many computers over network) if you are doing normal computer activities games, web browsing, and other stuff

I don't see why you can't play games on it. But they will run much better if you upgrade your RAM as you said you will and replace your graphics card.
