in 2016, i built my own gaming pc, i did some research and got some of the top Amd parts. I choose Amd over Intel, because it had a reputation as being cheaper and since it was my first rig, i wanted to be smart and go the cheaper route since i was less experienced. I got everything i needed and then it turned on but would barely stay work (Was laggy since start up and any gaming just crashed the beast) I took it to a co-worker who also works at a computer store as a tech guy. He couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. I then took it to best buy paid out about 100$ for their entire process. They called said it worked, i got home, turned it on and after 10min it shut off ( I guess the idiots at best buy don't check anything) I took it back, and we repeated this process 3 times before i decided best buy is incompetent. Their repair plan said Certain parts needed replaced. I replaced all these parts and every time still couldn't get it working. -___- and neither could they. I thought best buy probably just had nonprofessionals.. So i took it to another computer store. Same thing, they give it back say the power supply was fried. I replace the power supply. It turns on for 5 seconds then turns off.. -___- i am done with this. At this point, if there is a Online store i can send the hunk of junk to, that can replace whatever it needs an send it back working and bill me the cost, this would simplify the whole guessing thing/compatibility check thing. Point me in the direction!

this is actually interesting. You have to post your computer specs for us to look at just for curiosity. Anyway the answer that said computer repair shops is what i would recommend too, and like they said DONT say anything just say it turns off for some reason and thats it. good luck.

ps. before you take it home let them try it out for more than 5 or 10 minutes while stressing it with multiple open programs. See if it lasts.

pps. a computer shuts itself off as a precautionary measure so the cpu wont burn itself out due to heat. Either that or theres not enough power being distributed to its parts. And now that ive said that it might actually be your house's electrical that might be causing the problem, maybe.

Is the computer sharing an outlet with something else? maybe try giving it its own outlet and not have it compete for power with another device especially portable heaters, a fridge, portable AC etc. I think that might be it, since you say you have good parts and all, your computer must be a power hog. Anyway good luck with it

Don't bring it to a store. They're just salesmen.

Have it fixed at a computer repair shop. Just hand it in, don't say much. Don't mention it's new or you don't know anything. Just let them figure it out.

IF you can't find a computer repair shop, ask computer rental shops, digital printing shops, or computer parts shop that does not have their own service center.

Agreed,

Has anyone thought of checking the temperatures of the CPU and GPU with a temperature monitoring program?

Does the PC shut down when in safe mode?

Does the PC shut down when you have only 1 stick of RAM, each stick?

Have you ever thought of breadboarding your PC? This is the process of taking all parts out of the case and setting them up on your kitchen table. The you attempt to boot up the PC with the bare minimum of hardware.

Breadboarding rules out short circuits which will cause the PC shut off.

Bad RAM has been known to crash a PC.

You could have a bad motherboard for all you know.

Are all the motherboard mounts in the correct places? If you have an unused mount in the wrong location that's touching the back of your motherboard, it can cause a short.

Have you taken a look at Windows Error Reports on your PC?

Finding the answer is a process of elimination. Sometimes there are silly little things that can cause a PC to crash. Outside contractors like the Geek Squad or Fry's Electronics will only test a PC to see if it powers on but they will do nothing to see if it's running 20 minutes later. They don't know all the tips and tricks like how to check for a short or to breadboard. In a lot of cases they're just geared to sell more hardware to you.

Shipping an entire PC off somewhere is very expensive. By the time you paid for the shipping there and back, plus the repairs, you could have bought yourself a new motherboard and CPU.

You can't blame AMD here. If the motherboard is faulty then it's the manufacturers fault, not AMD. AMD systems are just as reliable as Intel's. There isn't as much truth to this getting more bang for your buck with AMD as people think there is. AMD just excels at certain pricepoints, or their processors are good with certain applications. When you spend $300 or $150 on a CPU, you are getting what you pay for.

It would also be helpful for you to list the specs of your hardware. You can also find useful answers at places like Tom's Hardware or maybe pcpartpicker. Tom's is more geared towards hardware repair. It would be helpful for you to find others who have faced the same situation and found the fix.

In the past I had a system that would shut off after 10 minutes to 30 minutes of use. I swapped all hardware and even tested with a different CPU. The motherboard at fault here. Once I replaced the motherboard they system was fine.

if it turns on and runs for 10 minutes Ok then turns off it is likely you have either not fitted an adequate cpu cooler or have put too much or too little heat transfer compound between it and the cpu, you also may have accidentally overclocked it with an incorrect FSB setting or voltage setting

the direction is - find a gaming rig build online from a reputable source that covers all the bios setting ect and copy it .. nobody is incompetent but you .. you cant just throw parts together without knowing how to set it up ..
