My computer says I have 5 % free space, How can I get more?

I have an HP laptop computer, I keep getting an error message telling me I have only 5% free space. The problem is this, I can't find what is taking up all the space. It is a 60GB, I have 8 GB in music and 3GB in movies and 1GB in photos. I was told to erase all of these but that is not what is taking up all the space. I have cleared all old programs that have not been used this year. I have deleted all old documents. And when I try to run the Defragmenter, I get a message that says I need at least 15 % free to run it, so it tells me to delete stuff off the hard drive and try again. I really need help to determine what I need to delete to give me more space. I had like 80% free just a few months ago, I have not downloaded anything but a few songs, any help would be great.

go to find, look up cache and delete all those, after that go to ccleaner.com and get ccleaner to clean those files automatically when you run it. You are about to crash, you have internet files and cookies etc that appears to have been gathering on your computer for years

RUN Scandisk to correct errors.

Step 1 : Download

Select in the menu all and check 0 byte files/ ignore system and hidden files.

Disk cleanup More options

Delete all old System Restore files

Use all programs. One click operation.

Step4 :Download Wise Registry Cleaner from

Delete green checked Registry entries.

All above programs safe .

Step 5 : check free space now.disk

Advanced : Check

C:/windows total disk space used should be around2GB

to 3 GB. /Remove all xp Update uninstall files

( may be hidden)

Clear your web browser cache.

Tools>>Internet Options>>(Browsing History) Delete>> select Temporary Internet Files.



Empty your recycle bin. (Like I needed to tell you that.)



Uninstall unneeded programs. (You already did this.)



Uninstall unneeded Windows components.

You can get rid of a lot of unneed data by removing unused Windows components. Go into your Control Panel (click START button and then Settings then Control Panel or START then Control Panel). Then click Add/Remove Programs then click Add/Remove Windows Components. A list of optional Windows components will be listed. Uncheck the items you don't need. They will be uninstalled. Some items have sub-items. Click then and click Details to choose and unselect the sub-items.



Delete emails from Deleted Items folder in your email programs.



Delete temporary files.



When Windows crashes it sometimes saves files in TMP or temporary files. Use you Search function in Windows to locate and delete these files. Type in *.tmp in the search box. This is used to tell Windows to find all temproary files. When they are listed delete them. be sure to clear your Recycle Bin afterwards or hold the Shift key down when you delete them to bypass the Recycle Bin.



That should give you enough room to DEFRAG.

Sounds like you have a virus or spyware. If you have an antivirus program, update and run it. If you don't , go to www.trendmicro.com and run their online scanner. If you don't have a spyware checker, go to www.lavasoft.com and download adaware and install that. Update it when it prompts you to and run a full system scan.

it must be a virus dear friend, according to what you said your pc should have at least 60por cent free space, my best advice to you is to copy your important documetns on a cd or usb key and format your hard disk , this will defenetly work trust me.
