computer problem?

I need some advise.

I have a 2.0 ghz dual core (what the comp came with) 2.0 gihz memory 300gwz power supply

I play some pretty high end video games (star wars galaxies to name one). I know they take up a lot of memory and processing (ex. some people with slow comptuers or video cards get lag).

But i should be past any problems.

I know for sure 2 things

1. if i have been running my computer for long and i start SWG (for example) it freezes up and i cant even get back to my desktop without starting the computer.

2. If i restart the computer and then start a game such as SWG, it runs fine.

I dont know if this is a power problem or what.

I started out with a integrated video card (lacking memory i'm sure was one problem) and invested in a Nvidia 6600. that helped a lot.
I had 1 gig of memory and upgraded to 2 gigs.

Could this be a power problem? some people have told me it probably is.

please give me any advise you can.

some say a 400 would help

Sounds like a power management problem to me.

Go to control panel/Performance and Maintenance

You should see 3 main settings here, under the Visual Effects tab.

Adjust for best performance is probably your best bet.

Also, if you have Windows XP,you can run Tweak UI to edit your startup menu, and remove a few items from starting everytime you turn on your computer.

You have a pretty fast system, so the only thing I can think of that could be slowing you down is running processes in the background, like an animated desktop picture.

Go to http://www.pcpitstop and run the full test. This site will rate your system and recommend changes that might help you.

If it is a power problem, your CPU will be getting hot. Try opening the tower and see if it is so.

I think that it might not be so.

It could possibly be a RAM issue. It is very much possible that the RAM in your system corrupts the content that will lead to freezing.

Test few things, open up the CPU, look if all fans are working properly in it. Which thing is heating as pan?

Well, it seems you're running powerful on Ram matter and there might not be any minor and/or major hitching or whatsoever which indicates your system performance hit though as you mentioned there's an weird glitch by which you'd be left with blank screen or so, it's may be caused by different things one would be PSU deficiencies and other might be still remain unknown to a newbie!

anyway, try upgrading your drivers, both VGA and sound, and check your DX version by running "dxdiag" command in your run menu; if the problem exists you may try checking your chassis fans and then you may go for your bios and assure your self by loading the Optimal defaults.

its surely a overheatin problem... as a ram prob would show up much faster and a power prob would be probably detected early on as ur looks like a pretty high end mother board... if the issue comes up after usin the system for a long time then its a overheat prob... try applying some heat sink compound to the processor.. or check out ur fan... i'ld recommend adding one or two chassis fans tour cabinet... ok..

this is almost definately a RAM problem. there is a corruption so there is a fatal error and you have to restart your computer. it only comes up with games because there is so much memory being used that the corruption is getting in the way of a lot.

When you go to control panel, system, does it show your full memory? Perhaps it is not all seated properly or you have a faulty panel.

When was the last time you updated the drivers for your video card? :-)
