Question:
Thinking about a new PC, Wait for windows 7 release?
?

I'm planning to buy a new PC, i am aware that Windows 7 is released in october. Some retailers are offering a free W7 upgrade on PCs bought now, when it is releases ( i assume this means they will just post you the disk in oct)
My question: is it going to be better to wait until PCs come with W7 preinstalled, or buy now and upgrade when it is released.
Either way i assume their may be a few bugs as its a new version.
But do you reckon a preinstalled version will be significantly better than upgrading yourself?

Cheers

It's better to wait.

While you can upgrade Vista to Windows 7, many have reported slight bugs when doing so. It's much better to have a fresh install, but then you need to reinstall everything. So if I where you, i'd wait until the Windows 7 machines arrive.

I've used Windows 7 for the last few months and am using it now. To me it's much better than Vista and is worth the wait.

Here's Microsoft's Windows 7 upgrade Chart http://mossblog.allthingsd.com/files/2009/08/windows-upgrade-chart.png It lists which versions of Vista will upgrade to 7. Have a look at it, and if that doesn't put you off I don't know what will lol.

I'm not sure its really all up to you, However Microsoft are not releasing a Upgrade version of W7 and are instead offering a discounted version between the release date and December 23rd if memory serves correctly. So it will be a fresh install of a new OS so its swings and roundabouts, I would personally get the new computer and then reinstall to W7 on release. Which means it may cost more, because the company may try and swindle you by saying the W7 at the non discount price that it will be for the first 2 months of release. So its your choice but i hope thats enough information to help you out.

Well, if you get a PC now, Microsoft gives you windows 7 for free when it comes out, so... why wait. I agree tho that windows XP is the most stable windows OS out currently, but 7 could change our minds. To me 7 just looks likes vista, with less errors.

Yeah, wait. Vista is still poor, and Windows 7 is going to be better than Vista for sure. Contrary to popular belief since the terrible fiasco of the Vista release, Microsoft is not full of idiots. They'll have figured out what went wrong and fixed it. If they haven't, there'll be a revolution!

Vista to Windows 7 = Windows 98 to Windows 98 SE

That's what I think and I will wait at least a year for it to prove itself.

Get Windows XP. It's so far the most current and most stable Windows OS out there.

hi peter

windows 7 at release candidate stage is probally more stable than windows vista was at the same release candidate stage,so windows 7 is surely gonna be better than anything since windows xp

however windows 7 is also going to be significantly cheaper than vista was at release stage so depending on the upgrade cost to the end user it may be worth buying windows 7 yourself and installing it

the upgrade options that come with windows vista pc,s are not clear cut as they allways look, they may involve additional shipping costs and insurance and this can come to the cost of a oem version of windows 7 itself

for example i have found Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit OEM with Windows 7 Voucher ( http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Software/Operating+Systems/Microsoft+Windows+Vista+Home+Premium+32bit+OEM+with+Windows+7+Voucher+?productId=36920) and this comes with a form to apply for windows 7 however thats it!..nothing is said about how much it will cost

in regards to bugs well i am currently running the release candidate of windows 7 and as i have allready mentioned theres little if any bugs or problems, and compared to vista that was installed on my pc when i initially built it and it froze every day, sometimes 3 or 4 times a day,i originally thought the motherboard was the culprit however when i dual booted with windows xp and 7 no problems reported

so it just goes to show how bad vista really is,some end users like it but personally i think it should be laid to rest with windows millenium, another windows os that was very bad

pre-installed windows 7 would be fine however you would have to wait until xmas to buy a pc with windows 7,so the only option at the moment is buy a pc with the upgrade voucher, however be sure you ask how much it will cost and this includes postage, shipping and any other charges, otherwise it may be better buying a oem copy

alternatively windows 7 release candidate is still avalible at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/get/download.aspx,and will work until august next year, thats a full year of windows 7 for nothing, worth a try

good luck peter !
