I would like to build an intel core duo machine and add a macintosh operating system instaed of windows, does anyone know for sure if this would work?

Yes it is possible. You're not the only one assembling pc's with MacOS X. Anyways, the steps are just the same as with a Windows OS. But you'll encounter some errors on the way. Just ignore them.
