I have my TV hooked up to my computer via a S-Video cable but the picture quality is not so great. My computer has a DVI output, and my TV has a HDMI input. I can buy a cable that would work, but i was wondering if that would improve the quality of the image on my TV. I could also use VGA if i wanted to. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I would use the HDMI cable. S-Video does work for some things, but its not the best for getting that picture perfect quality on the screen. And about the VGA, it may or may not be better than the S-Video cable, but consider these things, which you may or may not know already.

Different tv brands have different qualities. Especially when it comes to LCD's and plasmas. The standard when buying and LCD or plasma always seems to be 720 DPI (dots per inch). Near the higher end, at 1080 DPI, the quality of the picture increases.

Also, just like the tv's; the different cable brands will differ in quality - so I suggest looking around.

Although they are more expensive, the DVI - HDMI cable would be the best choice.

Remember the settings for the output. Make sure you are set for the best your TV can produce. I have YET to see a better picture on a tv than a monitor (Including High def), Unless it has a video input. You will get better pic with svideo than rca type jacks, and hdmi it even better. I just like Monitor input better, (No Problems). What I did with mine is set it up to record from the screen to my DVD. With Svideo it gave me a clear picture when I watch the movies, BUT it still looked better on my Monitor. PS I used a Monitor that I got from a security system. IT gave me better pic than the standard TV. But you will find some of the text will be hard to read on a tv. So after all of this I would say use the VGA, Unless you are doing something like I do (record) And also, If you can afford flat panel Monitors, you will like the free desk space. TRY THIS, Borrow someones HDMI cable, see what it will look like, If it's worth it to you, go with it. If NOT - Return the cable

If you ever want to try to record, Just use a dvd recorder and set the video program to the other monitor, then run the cable from the svideo out to the dvd in, and then hook the dvd to the tv. cute huh lather

The quality would greatly improve if you used a DVI to HDMI cable or adapter. VGA would also be an improvement.

check settings and play around with that
