I'm used to PC specs from building my own computers and I know little about MACs. I am PO'ed at Microsoft for Vista and discontinuing support for XP on June 30th. My friends at work are Apple Fans and they tell me that the spec for MAC might sound underated when compared to a PC but because they build their systems from top to bottom that their speed and proceesing abilty is actully faster. So what I'm trying to ask for what is the specs of this:
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/91224003/wo/Ll1jqKfK8x7p3czSs2W1GCu799I/5.?p=0
compared to the specs of parts I would buy part for a PC and build it? That and Why would it be worth buying a more expensive iMac if I could build the equivalent PC?

I don't really think you using your head as a DIY PC dude and are more frustrated at moving on to Vista from XP . Hey i am too but let's face it if we have to make the switch we lose some and we gain some. Macs are an even greater evil with the expensive propriety hardware and propriety software that only run legitly on Macs so i am very surprised that i have to state this point to a DIY dude? For less than $2.3k i can get you this PC:

Intel QX 9650 3.0Ghz 45nm quadcore = $1060

Abit IP-35 Pro = $150

EVGA 8800GT = $200

Seagate 500GB/32mb cache HDD = $120

4GB (2 X 2) A Data ddr2 800 RAMs = $77

Antec 900 casing = $100

Earthwatts 500W = $65

Vista Home Premium 64 bit = $110

Dell 22" LCD = $283

Total = $2165

You do not want to know what this rig makes that Mac look like....

I don't know spec wise and it really doesn't matter in the long run. The main difference is the operating system. MacOs X is extremely stable, runs well and has 115,000 fewer viruses to worry about. I am amazed at the number of questions on the security section here dealing with viruses & adware. Seems everyone wants the best "free" anti virus they can get. You spend hundreds to thousands on a PC but you want "free" software to keep it running. Doesn't make sense. I did tech support for schools for 10 years. I never had a Mac running MacOs X get a virus. I had two Macs running MacOS 8 (which never were checked until I checked them) have a virus which McAfee eliminated.

My iMac runs exceptionally well,so does my MacBook, the G4 iBook I bought my grandson, the Powerbook my wife uses, the iMac my son uses, the MacBook Pro my son-in law uses, the G5 tower my daughter uses. No viruses, no crashes, they just work.

You cannot make a comparison just using hardware specs because the we are talking about two different operating systems here. The software plays an important role in determining the performance of a computer.

I switched from windows to a mac because I as tired fo dealing with all those viruses. I also was looking for something that would be easier to use and maintain.

hi, nicely a Mac is a computer made by utilising Apple, yet Apple chooses to call its pcs Macs. A Mac's finished sort is Macintosh. Its only a computer even if the significant huge difference is the operating gadget. computer's regularly use Microsoft homestead windows and Macs use Apple's personal operating gadget Mac OS X. some human beings opt for to apply Linux on their pcs and Macs. Mac OS X is an operating gadget in retaining with freeBSD utilising the Darwin kernel. FreeBSD itself is in retaining with Unix and for this reason OS X is a Unix like operating gadget. different Unix like operating structures is Linux. Microsoft homestead windows is depending on the NT kernel made by utilising Microsoft itself. Unix is general to be more beneficial sturdy and guard than different operating structures and for this reason OS X is more beneficial sturdy and far more beneficial guard than homestead windows. both operating structures have a special interface and use different courses though they have some instantly ahead courses as well mutually with Microsoft workplace. Macs r also regularly overestimated as compared to computer's with a similar hardware so human beings evaluate them to be expensive and also because they do no longer have a majority of the marketplace percentage application builders do not write courses for OS X that a lot. similar way homestead windows has many video games made only for it while OS X has a very video games stepped ahead for it through lack of marketplace percentage. contained in the top the significant huge difference is that OS X runs on Macs made by utilising Apple and homestead windows regularly runs on primary pcs general as computer's made by utilising different organizations. i'm hoping I helped. solid success and take care!
