We bought a Compaq Presario CQ5328F computer, AMD Athlon 2, Dual Core 2.7 Ghz, for $399 canadian, once I seen the vacant PCIExpress x 16 slot I took my savings and added Corsair TX 850 W (watt) power supply $179, 4 GB of Kingston Hyper X DDR2 memory $149, and Sapphire HD 5670 1GB of GDDR5 memory $129, the power supply is 400 watts more than I need for the HD 5670, but I can easily upgrade to any single heavy duty video card like say the fastest card out now the Sapphire HD 5970 Toxic 4GB of memory that needs a 850 watt power supply. So if a compaq computer has a HD 5670 or better you can play any game out there just not maxed out, better to have high end card 5850 or better. Or if it has PCIExpress x 16 slot you may upgrade in future. SEE www.originpc.com see Genesis gaming computer or for gaming laptop EON 18 can come with TWO ATI HD 5870s. Origin PC is a new company made by some of the original Alienware prsonnel. Also see HailStorm @ www.digitalstormonline.com or the Shift @ www.maingear.com. Also NOTE that AMD is going to drop ATI name and their new videos cards are going to Rule; Nov. 2010 the new Cayman 6850/6870 are to roll out, and Dec. 2010 the heavy duty Antilles 6970 is to roll out, the Sapphire TOXIC HD 5970 4 GB is top dog right now, these new cards way better, can't wait!

Almost no stock computers are good for gaming without doing some upgrading. Most of the time they have onboard video with either low dedicated memory or shared video memory and these are usually horrible for gaming. If you get a new computer, you'll probably have to upgrade the video card in any new computer if you want to run games at their best.

Compaq is the lower end of the HP line...most "factory" computer JUST make there spec. they are highly prioritized and the bios cant be "tweaked" to accept anything not authorized by the manufacture. they mostly have on board graphics that can not play games well if at all. If you buy a video card for it you will most assuredly need a bigger wattage PSU. A "factory" computer and a "gaming" computer are quite different...like turning your "family sedan" into a "race car"...it can be done but at what expense?...you would be better served by building it your self and getting all the parts specific to gaming than to try to force a "stock" machine to be something it wasn't made to be.

Compaq systems are good. for everything, still you have to specify you hardware configuration.
go to start>run>type "msinfo32" (enter)>
find your motherboard, graphic card, ram ..etc
