Service packs are released by Microsoft to fix known bugs, compatibility and security issues with the current Operating System.

In a Service Pack there are many fixes for different bugs and other issues. These fixes are also known as patches.

Microsoft release their first fixes in Service pack 1 then later on releases another Service pack if required. You guessed it Service Pack 2 and so on...

Microsoft has released 3 Service Packs for Windows XP and the latest was released recently. Each Service Packs contain the previous release so there is no need to install

the previous release when a new release is available.

Microsoft web site is the best place to get your Service Pack

You can also get Service Pack via Windows update which is included in your operating system

Service Packs are collections of hotfixes and other operating system changes bundled together.

To check if you have Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed, go to the start menu, then Run, and enter 'winver' (no quotes). This will give details about your current Windows version, including what Service Pack is installed (if any). If you are running a later Service Pack installed, you will also have the fixes from Service Pack 1.

If you need to update, the link for Service Pack 3 is below.
