Is a new computer a waste of money?

Im 15 and i wanted to buy a new one, i had about 600$ id been saving up and i wanted to buy one because we have a cheap laptop. I asked my mom if i could buy one and she told me ot was a waste of money. Do you think it is a waste of money, and how could i convince my mom to let me get it?

it is not a waste of money if you use it a lot. always buy the best you can afford, that way it lasts a bit longer. apple are a waste of money because they are soo expensive, about 2 or 3 times the price of a similar pc. get the best windows pc you can afford and it will be good for a long time, you can always upgrade components of it if you need to and make it better at a later date

I was thinking that maybe the way to go with computers these days is to rent and at the end of the rental to have the rental company do the upgrade??

Does the 'cheap laptop' do what you need? If not, then it's time to upgrade. But, if you use a Windows machine, you may want to wait until the end of the year when Windows 8 is released.

A cheap one is if you are doing more than studies like video games. But many games use your new computer's minimum requirements.



If you are doing just studies and not bound to play games you can buy a cheap pc.



If you're an Apple fan, save up for an iMac or buy a Mac mini. Minis are universal to everything. Including an HDTV.

What is it that you "need" this laptop for exactly?



For $600 you wont be playing games (although there are a few options).



Do you just want your own laptop?



If its simply you want your own laptop tell your mother that, and say "maybe I dont need to spend all 600 dollars" COMPRIMISE!!!



Because I wouldn't let my teenage (prone to regret decisions) spend everything they had one one laptop.

I like my desktop computer:) its also my dvr and gaming system. Games on it look a lot better then my ps3. a Desktop computer has a lot more cpu power then a notebook.

It's not a waste of money. Tell her you will pay for it and say please. Make it so she will feel that you will take good care of it.
