Hi everyone,
I have decided that I am going to build a new computer. I am completely new to this subject, but I do know what I need to know about building, and also I have a haynes book on this aswell.
HOWEVER I have drawn up a list of components that I like the look of, and I think they will all be comptible with each other but I just want to ask for you opinions on if they are good choices and if thy will actually work well together;
The list is as follows:
-XIGMATEK midgard pc tower case
-Asus M4A87TD Evo motherboard
-AMD Phenom II X4 955 CPU
-Sapphire radeon HD 5770 PCI-E graphics card
-Seagate barracuda internal 3.5" SATA Hard Drive - 1TB, 7200rpm
-Seagate barracuda internal 3.5" SATA Hard Drive - 250GB, 7200rpm (as OS drive)
-Integral PC3-10600 DDR3-1333 DIMM RAM memory module - 4GB [x3]
-LG GH20N515 20x internal SATA DVD re-writer drive
-Asus Xanar DG 5.1 channel PCI Sound Card
-Mac OS X Snow Leopard
-Corsair Gaming Series GS800 High Performance 800W power supply unit

Let me know what you think, and also if anything is missing that you reccomend, please let me know.

I love the way that you through in the Mac OS X Snow Leopard. You do know that it wont run on this machine correct?

Other then the Mac software you have a awesome computer. 12 GB of ram though? Even gaming you will not need 12 GB of ram. I have the same CPU with a different Motherboard, and 8 GB of ram. I am running Fedora as my Operating System, with all of the added goodies. A web, backup monitoring, database, voip, and mail server. I also have two Virtual Boxes that are always running and they both use 2 gb of ram each, and each one CPU core.

This leaves two cpu cores and 4 gb of ram. I still can not do enough to slow down, or freeze my computer. I am not overclocking my cpu or ram. My computer runs so smooth with all of this running.

All and all yes a awesome computer. Wanna trade? I would however do two 1tb drives.

I hope that I have been of some use.

PS: Change the Mac OSX (Linux is truly Better)

Let's be honest. Mac OS X? that is a fail right there. Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit is so much more capable, and Linux is even more so. Actually, i am nearly sure that AMD chips won't work with OS X. So you need an Intel CPU and motherboard if you still want to run that crappy Apple OS. Everything else looks fine. You have a ton of HDD space, and the amount of RAM is kind of overkill. It would be helpful to know what you want to do with your computer. It will shape the way you build it, and how others help you build it.

If this is a gaming computer, it's not good. The 5770 should be replaced with 6850 or 6870, at least.

That case has terrible airflow. Nuff said.

Why a special HDD for the OS?? You could get a 60GB SSD and install OS on. Your computer would boot in like 15 seconds. Otherwise, get a 250gb hard drive, but not 7200rpm. Try to find a faster 250GB 10.000rpm (rounds per minute).

5.1 audio channel? 7.1 are most new ones for better sound. You don't need a sound card after all, motherboards have on board audio.

800w is insane overkill. 650-700w is fine.

MAC OS X???? WTF!!! You destroy everything by installing this. No games. No applications. No future upgrades.

hi substitute the XIon PSU to a 750watts PSu Coolermaster, corsair or Antec. Why, becouse it would choose to have the amp necesary to run your GTX670 adventure nvidia would desire to of the time 38amp in a 12v rail. It now no longer necesary to have a valid card, adventure this new board have fairly solid severe high quality sound, till finally you wanna spend on a $200 dollards sound card, that for my section is a waste of money. yet, fairly great build you going to do.

What you wil need to use your computer for is the main thing that needs to be focused on without you telling anyone what you need it for no one can really determine what to say about your setup, who knows you might need that much ram its alot. I will tell you some good information though. Everything in your setup is fine I am a professional computer tech. For people who really know about computers there is relly no reason why a person should always get into distictions about is a mac better than a pc for a person who knows about computers a pc is better for the reason, that you can install Mac os x on a pc, Windows can be installed on a Mac but inside of the mac os it has to be installed meaning that the mac os has to be runnin in order to make windows run, which is not as good if done on a pc because of the fact if you have two operating systems running at once it will drain more from you pc. You have more apps to run on a pc and even if you need to run mac apps for a person with knowledge of a pc you will know you can install mac and run them. So the only reason really that someone besides a person that doesn't know better you choose a mac would be looks, if you choose to do so. A person who doesn't know much about pcs a mac is better because a normal person gets a computer and uses it they dont really know maintanance as good as a person experienced does, they might know the basics but windows is so poorly put together, they might run into issues. A pc is good but probably wont last the normal person to long without them paying to have someone look at it and stuff like that, but for a person who knows pcs defenetly are way better than macs. First of al mac is very good, you have to know you can run more than just one os on a pc, everyone knows that, so why not run mac, when you can run the others also I run mac os lion windows 7 and unbuntu linux Mac is very cool to run especially when you won't be limited to just running mac os, it is not a fail you might be a video editor dont listen to people when they say it is not good to install on a pc , matter fact if you can it is awsome because you can still install windows along with it and if you look around on the net you can find that mac os does work with amd.You can install a mac os x on a pc its called a hackintosh, it will not be the regular install that you would conduct on a mac but it can be done with a little extra work look up hackintosh. After you install the mac os x I would recommend also installing windows and a linux distro called unbuntu, your can configure your computer to boot to all three, this is why I would pick a pc over a mac anyday. If you dont really know about linux you might wanta to install it and experience it, it is the most solid os, but I at least recommend a dual boot with windows if you are going to install a mac os on a pc. The sound card may be good for your computer if you plan to hook up a surround sound to it or somthing that is powerfu, because it might blow out your onboard audio and you will be forced to buy a card but regular computer speakers you dont need a card for because you do have onboad audio. Don't know if you are planning on gaming because of the fact you said you want to install Mac os, but I can't say you won't game because you are putting money to make a pci express system, dont know to many programs thet require good graphics may you are trying to do some professional editing or somthing maybe thats why you are going with mac os, you should have let people know what type of stuff you will need to be done with this computer because any computer is a good one, it all depends on what you are trying to do, graphics cards play a big part in getting the best of a computer, I would say with a couple gigs of ram and a good power supply and processer not to expensive now awadays the part you might want to really focus your money on is the graphics card, like I said depending on what you will use the compter for. You need to determine what type of stuff you need the graphics card to handle yours that you picked may be fine depending on what you want to do, just figure out want you will want to do and then look it up and research if your card can handle it.

looks good, but like first answer said, Windows 7 would be way better (especially for gaming)

I would get a better gpu though
