yes it is possible to put your old hard drive with windows 98 into your new custom pc however!!! chances are if you want to use the windows 98 you might need to reinstall windows 98 on the hard drive using the new computer. normally it don't boot properly or at all. #2 as for a new custom pc, make sure you have windows 98 compatible drivers, win98 is old and they don't write much drivers for it, and many are difficult to find. ***make sure you find the network driver before you attempt at it with out another computer near by. 90% of the time windows doesn't detect them out of the box, and thats for windows xp. lastly invest in a new operating system, i tried windows 98 on a 1.5 Ghz, 512mb sd ram computer 5 years ago and the performance was terrible compared to windows xp.

lastly if you cant afford new windows then try a Linux distrabution ie Ubuntu.

Yes, but you may be required to reactivate the os, and sometimes you can just install it and it works but you will have to update all your drivers for your hardware in the custom computer being that you would have the old drivers on your hard drive from the old computer that want be compatable with the new system.

Why would you want to downgrade your hard drive???

If you must have it....

you could take it out.... (if you are that tech savvy) then you can buy a "external hard drive case" (ebay or newegg.com sale them) and use your old hard drive an external hard drive!!

Here is a good tut you could use from "Computer Shopper" magazine.

And yes, you would be able to use the operating system.

finding on your particular setup on your new device, it ought to not be extremely as ordinary. Your previous device probably used an IDE ribbon (ATA) to connect the perplexing disk. Your new device ought to apply the comparable ribbon setup or it ought to apply a extra contemporary technologies like SATA. i could anticipate in spite of the indisputable fact that that your device could nevertheless have legacy IDE help yet without understanding the device i won't be in a position to assert for useful. As for transferring the disk to a sparkling device, removing involves taking off the case up. this could be so ordinary as a button on the back or in the direction of the back of the computing device or it must be screwed on. Disconnecting the stress will contain removing a capability connector and the IDE connector. the two could desire to disconnect with a small quantity of stress (no locks). As for removing from the tower physique, this could be a rail device or the disk ought to easily be screwed into the physique. as quickly as you have it open, it could be extremely obtrusive on a thank you to do away with it. As for connecting it to the hot device, in case you purely have one perplexing disk in it now and it makes use of the ATA ribbon, you will then could desire to look at putting the grasp/slave jumper at the back of the disk (close to the connector factors). Your customary disk would be the grasp and your previous disk could desire to be the slave disk. you will mount your disk into the tower employing an analogous setup to what's already on your new device. in the event that they use a rail device, you will could desire to bypass to a workstation save to stumble on an equivalent setup or you are able to rig something up (as long as you do not intend to shake the device up too plenty). After that, the disk would be attainable to convey on line in the OS. Assuming MS residing house windows 2000/XP, look in the computing device administration interface for Disk administration. in case you have SATA drives on your new device (this could be a plenty smaller connection for the disk than the previous ATA ribbon), you are able to could desire to apply your previous ATA ribbon out of your previous workstation. This needless to say assumes which you have a place to hook up the ribbon on your new device. If no, a fairly decrease priced PCI card could be offered from a close-by computing device save.
