PCI-E 2.0 vs PCI-E 2.0 x16?

Question

I'm looking up graphics cards, and my PCI slot is x16. Some of the graphics cards, in the specifications say just PCI-E 2.0. no x16 or anything at the end. Will a card labeled as PCI-E 2.0 work in my x16 PCI slot?

The x16 is the slot identifier. It just means it's a certain size (the number is the total number of lanes in the slot) and can handle cards up to that size. As far as I know, any card with a PCI-E 2.0 chip will work with the x16 slot, as smaller cards can work in larger slots, and the x16 is the largest commercial slot available. So you can't buy a PCI-E card that's too big for the slot, and if it's too small then it won't matter because it will still work.

When pci express first came out 8 years ago, it was a little tiny slot. Now adays it's a 16 pin slot. You should have no worries buying a pci-e card. The only way to find a 2pin or 8pin pci-e card is to go to a garage sale or steal it out of your grandma's computer

Yes, it is possible, my friend, because PCI-express video/graphics cards are backwardly compatible. It will, however. only be capable of transferring data at PCI-express 1.0/1.1 data throughput speeds. (The Asus P5KC motherboard has a PCI-e x16 slot, hich indicates that it operates at 1.0/1.1 data throughput speeds.)

PCI-E 2.0 is like a small little slot while PCI-E 2.0 x16 is like a long *** slot.
