I am running windows XP pro on both host and remote PC. I have a PC connected to a webcam located in my cabin 3 hours away from my home to check the weather. I use pcanywhere with a dial-up modem to connect. I connected about three times since I have been home but I can no longer connect. I just keep getting a ring until pcanywhere times out. Does anyone have a suggestion on what the problem could be? Or a better solution to connect to the PC? I cannot get a ISP where my cabin is located only a phone line.

I use to dial in to 1000 of systems a day running PCanywhere.

Sometimes when you disconnect the PCAW host service crashes and you can’t get back in until you reset the service or reboot. Since you don’t have another connection to send a reset the best way is to go home and reboot or restart the service. You could buy an X-10 and hook it up to your computer that would allow you to press a sequence of numbers to reboot your system over the phone.

well with out a lot of other details it could be a lot of diffrent things like a power outage in the area shut down the other pc , the line has voice mail and the modem isnt accsessing it right due to the broken ringtone signal , or maybe the pcanywhere has shut down or had an error , not knowing if u have even looked at the other pc yet or such its hard to say if you have a dubble line in your cabin it may be holding the first line open while you get the ringing on the second line , like if some one was on the phone just ignoring the second line feature , when you get there check the pc and phone line then check the settings for pc anywhere and look for updates as well as updates for your modem , thats about all i can offer ya

If the power went out and the PC had to reboot PC Anywhere would not have loaded and be ready to be connected to. Think that could be the problem?
