You will need to start again - format your disk then load the operating system

I suggest repeat the installation process. Make sure the OS (Windows) cd you have is a bootable one. Place the disc in the cd/dvd drive, then shutdown the system (do not restart). Once it is turned off, power it on and try to see if your system boots from the OS cd. If it does not and continues to go to the error, then you need to change your boot settings in the bios or you can also press F12 as stated above. If F12 is not available then you need to make the boot settings in the BIOS and make sure that the first boot device is set to CD/DVD removable drive. Save changes in the BIOS, power on the system.. you should get a quick message below the screen that says press any key to boot to CD. Once you get this message you need to immediately press any key on your keyboard so that it would continue booting to the OS CD. When you are done with this step, just follow the usual prompts to start installing the OS.

This issue can be caused by any of the below reasons.

Corrupt boot files on the computer.

Settings for hard disk drive are not correct.

Floppy diskette or CD in computer causing issue.

Boot devices not set properly.

BIOS corrupt or misc. setting not set properly.

Connections loose or disconnected.

Bad Hard disk drive or other bad hardware.

Corrupt boot files on the computer

If the computer has no bootable files on the drive it is attempting to boot from it is possible that the computer may halt at " verifying dmi pool data...".

To resolve this issue:

Boot from a bootable floppy diskette. Ensure that this diskette was made on the same Microsoft Windows operating system that is installed on your computer.

Once at the A:\> prompt type "sys c:" and press enter. This should report the message "File system transferred". Once transferred remove the diskette and reboot the computer.

If the computer continues to not boot attempt to re-create the master boot record by booting from the bootable floppy diskette again. Once at the A:\> prompt type "fdisk /mbr" and press enter. This should return you to the prompt without giving you any message. Once at the prompt remove the diskette and reboot the computer.

Additional information about the "fdisk /mbr" command can be found on document CH000175.

As daft as this may sound, check your keyboard is connected properly.

To take you through step by step what is happening:-

PC BIOS boots and then looks for bootable devices in the order they are set up in the BIOS.

Your PC sees to boot from CD/DVD as a priority boot as long as the CD in it is a bootable one (which it does as it's your windows disk).

Your computer then prompts you to ask if you wish to boot from the CD (as it has found a bootable disk) - you have the time that it takes the 5 dots come up to respond by pressing any key.

You press a key - but nothing happens :(

Computer has decided that you did not want to boot via CD so looks for other bootable devices, finds your part setup of windows, decides it can't continue & throws up your error message.

Everything seems fine except for your keyboard press.... hence my idea of checking the keyboard :)

When you start the PC keep hitting F12 repeatedly until you get to the startup devices menu. Make sure it's set to boot from CD first. Put the cd in, and reboot. Get it to boot from the cd and reinstall the OS. Reformat the old partitions as you go through the setup. Then, snap the heads off all your brother's toys.

Too me, it sounds like he simply messed up the OS disk. I don't know how he did it, but while installing the OS the loss of power might have killed the disk if it is one of those single use disks. If it wasn't a single use OS disk then I would guess that the disk has a scratch on it.

domicile windows XP would not have a Anti Virus. purely a fire wall. what's the Anti Virus suggested as? you ought to to work out in upload eliminate classes if something got here pre-put in on your device and purely de-deploy it. ;-)
