Hi Evil

Try running this process

DELETING CLUTTER ON THE COMPUTER

DO IN THE FOLLOWING ORDER:

RECOMMENDED TO DO EVERY WEEK

or when the computer or a program is acting/running slow and sluggish.

The following are purely the steps to take; this is not a detailed outline of what to do. Due to never having used a Mac, these options may be slightly different.

Cookies

Go into Control panel, then click on Internet options, Temporary Internet Files, Delete cookies, and then Delete Files, and Clear History. Depending on your Internet Options program due to differences in Internet Explorer 6 & 7, this may change; if it does, do the following instead.

If you go into Internet Options & see a Browsing History button click on it, click on the delete all button, another box will come up and make sure to check mark the box that says also “delete files and settings stored by add-ons” and click on Yes.

Disk Cleanup

Click on Start at bottom of screen; go to All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and Disk Cleanup

Disk Defragmenter

Click on Start at bottom of screen; go to All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and Disk Defragmenter

SEARCH FILES & FOLDERS

Click on Start, then Search, All files & folders, type in *.tmp in the “all or part of a file name” box, then in the “look in” box make sure to click on the down arrow button and click on the C:\ drive or if you have more than one local hard drive, you can click for both of them & click on search button

*.tmp (application temporary files; delete any more than 1 day old) don’t delete ones that have to do with your printer this will mess up the settings for your printer. The .tmp files for your printer will show the brand name for your printer.

DON’T FORGET to clear out RECYCLE BIN!

ALSO SCAN &/or UPDATE FOLLOWING:

Ad-aware, Spyware Windows Updates

Anti-Virus Program & any other pertinent updates or scans

DISK CHECK

Click on Start button at bottom of screen, go to My Computer, local disk (C:) – right click & go to Properties, Tools Tab, Error checking – check now, Click both boxes to have check marks. Start, yes, and the next time you turn on the computer, it checks and fixes bad sectors. If you want to go ahead & do this, you can restart your computer and it will begin this process. This process can take a while to do depending on what needs to be fixed; that’s why it should be done last. It can take anywhere from 5 minutes to 2 hours; time will vary depending on the amount of errors on your hard drive & operating system. When it’s done it will go back to the log in screen if you have a password (which is strongly recommended). If you don’t have a password, it will go back to the desktop.

Once a month, If you have a desktop computer, open the tower to your computer and get a can of air and spray out the dust. This especially needs to be done if you have indoor pets. One cannot imagine how much pet hair collects in the tower.

If your virus/spyware free, there are a couple things you can do get your computer working faster. If you using your computer for normal stuff and not gaming. You don't always need more RAM you just need to perform a few maintenance task.

First, if you haven't cleaned your registry in a while. This is necessary. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events produces a key. That key needs your PC's resources and free space. So, if you clean your registry, you make more resources available for speed. Do a registry scan if you got more than 20 errors you should clean it.

http://www.delete-computer-history.com/what-is-the-best-registry-cleaner.html

2. Clear your Windows cache files, this is your temporary file. It can grow up to a large volume and stop your computer from using RAM properly. In a sense slow it down by preventing it from using free space. Here is how:

1. Quit Internet Explorer, Firefox, or any other web browser

2. Click Start, click "Control Panel", and then double-click "Internet Options".

3. On the General tab, click "Delete Files" under Temporary Internet Files.

4. In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the "Delete all offline content" check box , and then click OK.

5. Click OK.

3. Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by altering your msconfig. Here is how:

1. Open your Start menu.

2. Click Run

3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe"

4. In the "system configuration utility",click either "service" or "startup" tab

5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.

6. Click "OK"

Computer speed is by ram memory available. A lot of speed is used by booting up programs not needed. Do the following to increase ram memory speed.

Go to start then run and type in msconfig. Then ok.

To control what boots up goto msconfig. There is a boot up tab check or uncheck the boxes, to disable or abel each item. Also because you disable an Item this does not prevent you from using anything you disable, it only prevents it from booting up when you start computer. If you want to use an Item you disable from booting up just click on it, and it will start. There are a few essentials you need when booting up, normally 4 or 5 plus virus and firewalls controls if you have them. I have an HP mine are PS2, REC GUARD, KBD, CCAPP. Just rember because when you don't boot it up it is still usable but you gain a lot of ram memory. Also you can call the manufacter and they will give you the esstials for booting up. So you understand KBD stands for key board PS2 stands for mouse.

It could be a numerous amount of things, here are a couple you could look at.

Too many startup items. Go to start... run... type in msconfig, and go to startup tab. Uncheck everything in there except for you anti-virus software. Reboot check to see if it is faster.

Anti-virus constantly running scans, or depending upon what antivirus you use it could leave a big footprint in your memory. Check to make sure that scans are set for a period where you won't be on the PC.

Spyware or Viruses. Download these programs and run scans getting rid of anything they find. Download: Spybot Search&Destroy, Super Anti-Spyware. (Note: if they find alot of things you might want to consider reloading your PC)

Too Much room taken up on the C:\ . Go to My Computer and check your C:\ if you have more than 10GB of free space you are fine. Any less and you may want to consider deleting some things backing them up or getting a larger c:\ and just ghosting it.

If your internet is slow try deleting all of your internet temporary files cookies and history by:

From the Internet Explorer menu, click Tools | Internet Options. For Internet Explorer v7, follow steps 2-5 below. For Internet Explorer v6, follow steps 6-7. For both versions, follow the steps outlined in steps 8 and below.

If using IE7, under Browsing history select Delete.

From the Delete Browsing History window select Delete all... from the bottom of the dialog and click Yes when prompted.

To delete individual categories, select Delete files... for the desired category and select Yes when promoted.

When finished, click Close to close the Delete Browsing History window.

If using Internet Explorer v6, under Temporary Internet files select Delete Cookies and select OK when prompted.

nowadays you need more than 1gb ram for better performance preferably 4gb ram, and other such as

1. more stronger processor

2. uninstall any program you don't really need it

3. do not install lots of font,

4. set your desktop screen to performance

5. some anti virus might slow down your computer performance (drastically)

6. remove autostart program you dont really need,

7. maintenance your pc periodicaly like Defrag, Diskcleaup etc, or just use cpu cleaning program such as TuneUp Utilities 2009

8. cek for any virus, malware, spyware using AV

ps: long time ago i use 1gb ram too and sadly enough i'd burn data to DVD took me 4 hours... and then i'd upgrade it to 4gb and it burn for just 8-10 minutes @_@

1.Double-click on the System icon in the Control Panel. The System Properties dialog box appears.

2.Click once on the Advanced page tab at the top of the System Properties dialog box. Figure 1 shows this specific page of the dialog box.

Figure 1 Configuring your Windows XP system for higher performance using the Advanced tab of the System Properties dialog box.

3.In the Performance segment of the Advanced page (the first entry on the top of the page), click once on Settings. The Performance Options dialog box appears, as shown in Figure 2.

Figure 2: Using the Performance Options dialog box, you can define the virtual memory paging file size.

4.Click once on the Advanced tab of the Performance Options dialog box. Figure 3 shows the contents of the Advanced tab: Processor scheduling, Memory usage, and Virtual memory.

Figure 3 The Advanced page of the Performance Options dialog box gives you control over setting virtual memory sizing

5.Notice that at the bottom of the page there is an entry for defining the virtual paging size for your Windows XP system. Click once on the Change button. The Virtual Memory dialog box appears, as shown in Figure 4.

Figure 4 Using the options in the Virtual Memory dialog box to define paging file size.

6.The purpose of this dialog box is to define the size of the paging file your system will use. You can, for example, toggle Windows XP Professional to not provide any paging file by selecting the No paging file option (although it will save on disk space, it will inhibit your system's overall performance). The best selection in this area is to select System managed size because Windows XP will calculate the size of the virtual paging file for you. After you select the option you want for this specific option, click once on Set in the Paging file size for selected drive section.

7.Click once on OK to close the Virtual Memory dialog box; then, select OK in the two other dialog boxes until the main desktop is again shown.

8.Reboot your system, and PAGEFILE.SYS will be created. You'll notice that the file appears in the partition as defined in the Virtual Memory dialog box. Your system should now run more efficiently, especially when several concurrent applications are in use at the same time.

What is your processor/CPU Speed? The more, the better.

Try 2gb or 3gb of RAM, I really recommend 3gb.

Also try startupdelayer and minimize the login time to your windows user.

Run a virus scan with.

http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html

If you use Norton, McAfee or AVG then switch your anti virus immediately. These are the 3 worst anti viruses and are also RAM hogging.

Try these free ones.

dont fret.......having 1gb ram is not a great thing ... see if you can upgrade it to 2 or 3gb....if you cannot then download some free software from www.download.com.....download auslogics boostspeed and run the trial version.....if your trial version expires.....then see a activation code on google or buy the product....any way u like....or you can download a speedupmypc for free from the same site and run everything....maybe your computer is slow because of not doing defragmentation....there is a defragmenter in auslogics boostspeed and it does everything else to clean up your pc...........so best of luck ...i hope your pc improves (i am sure)

what you can do is to increase your 1Gb ram perhaps to 2 or more depending what specifications of your computer ,I suggest that go to a computer specialist, they will tell you what size can be installed.
