I want to know the approx power consumption of CPU only in Watts (no additional device attached). Mine is P4 3 Ghz Intel 915 GV chipset express.

Further I am also curious to know how much is the power consumption of 600 VA UPS (idle mode) and modem, separately.

As I am running this computer on inverter (back up) I need to calculate the back up time.

(I already know the power consumption of TFT LCD its around 25 W)

P4 3.0Ghz = 95 Watts

As far as the UPS goes, you'd have to check with the manufacturer of that particular UPS's... I just picked up one about a week ago that was 750 VA, that claimed to be the most "Energy Efficient" of the bunch. So I'd assume that each can be different at idle load for energy consumption.

By the way... Just so you know... Every figure you're going to see will be based on an AVERAGE amount of wattage. For instance... I had a customer who said every time he played a game his computer would reboot. When I checked it out I found that he had a 400 watt power supply with 2 hard drives plugged in and a rather powerful video card. When there were more advanced graphics on the screen the video card would suck more power which would overload the power supply causing the computer to restart. Once I installed a 600 watt power supply, he never ran into any problems again.

So based on what you're doing on the computer at the time, they amount of wattage that will be drawn from the UPS is going to vary as much as about 20-30% in either direction.

If you were browsing the internet for instance, and that's it, you would get longer life than say playing Halo 3 or running multiple applications at once.

Pentium 4 3.0GHz could have ~85W maximum power draw. Processor's voltage regulator circuit on motherboard could draw ~15W. 915GV chipset could draw ~15W. Each stick of ddr2 RAM draws less than 3W. HDD draws less than 5W. Fans draw about 3W each.

Your P4 set up (w/ just integrated graphics) could draw as much as 135 watts DC at full load. If power supply is 75% efficient, AC consumption is ~180 Watts.

The best, most accurate way of finding out is to check the manufacturer on both the CPU and modem, and finding their Watt consumption. You can input its model name into http://www.google.com and pretend you're shopping for it: shop sites should give energy information for them.

Or just try out Burn-IT, a CPU Watt Calculator (it may be in German, but I hope not) http://www.burn-it.dk/index.php?page=download_view.php&post_nr=4
