My hard drive recently crashed so I ordered a new one and replaced it last night. I'm not sure what settings to change when I enter start-up mode or if I'm supposed to put in any CD's or something. Help please?

yes, you will have to put in a bootable CD to re-load your operating system. Once the hard drive crashed, you lost any vendor's recovery partition or tools - you have to start from scratch...

You'll have to start from scratch. Did you get the hard drive from dell? is it completely empty or did they install their backup partition? Do you have a copy of windows to install? Do you have backup discs for your computer?

If you have the backup disks just load the disk prior to staring the machine, yeah you might have to start it load the disk and restart. the disk should boot up (Same thing with windows disks) If it doesn't you will have to change your boot priority usually by pressing a function key while bios is starting anyway change it so that your computer boots the cd drive first. That will fix the issue. If you don't have recovery software then you will have to reload all of your drivers.

You need to have a full copy of the operating system to install and you need the motherboard and other drivers for like sound, video and ethernet. On a different computer, download the correct drivers for your model from Dell and burn to a disk.

You will need to load a copy of the O/S and then load the drivers. YOu may need to unpack the SATA driver for the hard disk in order for the installer to detect the hard drive.

Its kind of technical to install a hard drive and they can mess up. Just like Car repair books not all the answers are there and you need to know some things.

If your hard drive is new & empty then you need to insert your Windows CD and boot from it.

This will then start the process of installing Windows.

i do not understand, yet the following is a observe of advice. My son is regularly happening with a thanks to fix pcs and he says warmth is the death of a pc. Unplug your pc once a month and blow out the dirt. many times, you could unscrew a pair of screws on the lower back and then slide lower back between the area panels to get interior. The processor receives warm really ordinary. There should be a warmth sink over it. it truly is continuously a sq. formed aluminum element that sits over the processor. Blow that out good. see you later as you retain the in the pc fairly free of dirt and animal hair, you'd be o.ok. in case you elect vacuuming rather, be careful now to not positioned the hose too on the point of the motherboard. in the journey that your vacuum purifier has solid suction, it would want to suck out some tiny elements off the motherboard. you may want to continuously stick a pair of old panty hose over the top of your hose, so if it tries to suck something up, you could capture it contained in the nylon. i'd imagine that something over one hundred degrees does not be too good.
