Have you recently deleted any programs, or installed any?

If so, you'd might need to re-download the appropriate drivers.

You didn't indicate what Operating System you are using. Windows has many services that run in the background = could be one you need is disabled.

First, go into sounds and audio devices in control panel and see if everything is okay. If so, then = =

Click on "RUN" from the program menu. Now type in msconfig and click OK. You will see a number of tabs. First go to the Startup tab. Scroll through the list and make sure a check mark is next to each = especially anything doing with Audio.

Now go to the Services tab. Click on it and you will be taken to Windows services. Look for any service having to do with Audio and make sure it is enabled.

After any change made, reboot the computer.

If none of the above works, then I would suggest you do a system restore to a day prior to the incident.

In the device manager, is the driver properly installed? I'm quite sure it's not actually. If you cannot find a Windows 7 Driver, try the Vista driver. If you plug in your headphones (try both back and front of PC), does the audio work then? If this last thing is the case, you have encountered the Windows 7 Audio incompatibility issue. I've ran into this a couple of times. This happens often with HP's actually. I never got around to fixing that issue to be honest
