We have a Dell Dimension 2350 with Windows XP Home Edition that we use for our dhildrem .
My son was on the internet on the webkinz kids site and the computer froze up , the page was still on the monitor but I couldn't get off the site , log off the internet or turn the computer off even when I pressed the power button . I ended up unpluging the computer and pluging it back in .
Once I pluged it back in and tried turning it on the power the light by the power button came on and it could hear the computer running put it shut back off after about 3 or 4 seconds and a few seconds later it would turn on and do the same thing . It would keep doing this over and over , it wouldn't even be on lond enough for anything to show up on the monitor . I tried pushing the exscape key on the keyboard when it would try to turn on but that did nothing .
I unpluged the computer overnight hopeing it would reset or something but that didn't work either , it did the same thing .
Can anyone tell me what the problem is . I know a little about computers but not much . I'm thinking it's the power supply or the processor but like I said I don't know much .
Can the problem be fixed and how do I fix it "
Any help would be apreciated VERY MUCH . THANKS .

drop by the nearest best buy and ask for a free diagnostic. you are not obligated to fix the computer there after they find out the problem. they are a godsend every time I run into a computer issue I can't solve. once they find the issue(s) I politely reject their offers to fix it, I always try to do it myself. Geek Squad is for the (really) rich and tech-ignorant. Or for rich business owners with computing issues.

Once they tell you the problem, jot it down and research (online) how to fix it yourself. it doesn't hurt to pick up the A+ Certification for Dummies book either, being computer-savvy can be very useful. (that's where I started in 1999)

first try resetting Como's,with the PC unplugged,disconnect all Peripherals,mouse,key board,printer,any USBs (remember static electricity) inside disconnect the power supply plugs a 4 pin and the larger one.now near the little round battery their will be a jumper (clear Como's) with 3 little pins,move it to the other setting for a few seconds then move it back,reconnect power plugs,mouse and key board,while your in there make sure the heat sink on the processor is clean.when you turn it on make sure the processor fan and the power source fan are running,if that don't work try booting in safe mode, or reinstall xp,if the cd rom will open put the disk in boot to that and continue the new install. my experience with bad power sources(dells) is you get nothing at all no noise,fans or nothing.if you narrow it down to the power source and still not sure,use a known good power source(some Dells don't use standard ATX plug configuration) ,good luck + and ofcourse like they say its an obsolete machine,but perfect for a child,dont put money into it but do take the time to fix it,it will run! i still have one,the kids screw it up,i fix it,they cant touch my good one!

Probably the power supply or the logic board. Unplug the computer, open it up, and pull the CMOS button battery. Leave it for about ten minutes, then put the battery back and put it back together. If that doesn't work, strip out any part that isn't necessary for it to power on and run. One stick of RAM, unplug the hard drives, pull any PCI/AGP cards, etc.

If that doesn't work, then pull the drive and drop the computer off at a recycle center. You can get one like it on Craigslist for $50, so don't bother trying to put any money into it.

My first PC Desktop was a DELL Dimension 2350/..that was like..2001..

That PC uses a 1.8 GHz..Pentium 4 Processor and RAM is like..233-MHz..

The XP Home Edition was a SP-1 OS..

Microsoft made available a CD--for FREE.. of SP-2..and then the SP-3 Upgrade was done over your MODEM..

The SP-3 Upgrade is actually a VISTA-Ready..option..

XP..at that point was being phased-out..

The SP-3 is a Update--for the use of a VISTA UPgrade OS..

===

How-ever..those machines are not even close to what is needed to operate--

..the Vista OS..

===

Today's..OS..requires a 800-MHz FSB..processor and 2-GB's of 800-MHz RAM//minimum/

..that's the least you can use..

===

The DELL Dimension Pentium 4..is a obsolete machine.

next time this happens hit ctrl alt delete all at one time and release it. a window should up and you can end any programs. if your web browser is internet explorer look for it and right click on it and hit end process. i would recommend that you use a browser call Firefox.it is very safe and is the best out there. your computer may haven froze because of intent explorer.make sure to download Firefox and install it. next time you go to that website look at how the page looks. if there's a lot of advertisements and even pop ups don't go to that site because they can cause viruses. not to scare you or any thing. a very helpful tip is to watch how web sites look and if they have a lot of ads then you know that the web site isn't to secure. make sure to use Mozilla Firefox tho it's very safe and protects your computer. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ or just get a new computer if it's old this store has the best prices ->>> microcenter.com

the respond isn't something. no count how briskly the processor is, how lots reminiscence it has, the dimensions of the stressfulpersistent is, form of visual exhibit unit, or the different component; a working laptop or computing device is barely as stable using fact the fool sitting in front of it. decrease back whilst we went to the moon the computing device on board the Apollo area pills weren't as stable using fact the Radio Shack TRS-80 residing house computing device. What was once a supercomputer is now sitting on your table. It takes guy made programming to make any computing device artwork. for this reason, a working laptop or computing device is barely as stable as who sits in front of it.
