So, I have been looking for parts to build a decent gaming computer for around $400-$500. I want to stay closer to the $400 range, But I would have to spend at least $100 on an OS and even more on other programs like Word. Is it a better idea to buy a decent pre-built computer and get parts for it as I go?

Build a Gaming PC for $500 - December 2013: http://youtu.be/5n5dolXyyg0

Change your GPU to a 750Ti or if possible a 760.

Try to acquire those pieces of expensive software from friends or relatives. I've been using the copy of Windows 8.1 pro a buddy gave me a while back.

u cant buy any decent gaming computers in the us but you could order a computer from pakistan (cheapest place on the planet), then buy a mac software and windows and parallels (ask for assistance on that part) , after that you can run orgin and steam on the windows part and the app store and os on your mac part (using parallels to run both) and run anything else like word hope this helps

PS: no builders buy windows or microsoft office. They use piratebay and download any torrent with a skull for safety assurance. It is entirely illegal, but true.
