yes windows xp will run on a P2...i've tested win xp on a old hp compaq laptop with a P2 ~400mhz 192RAM and it works...and it's still running right now...i dont remember the model of the laptop but those are the specifications
but to use for gaming u must have a bigger proc and a minimum of 256 ram depending of what game and apps u will use...for this u will need p2 800mhz+ or p2 celeron 800mhz+
btw also tested on a pc with p2 celeron 800mhz 256/512ram and p3 1000mhz 512ram

Yes you can.
I have been using Windows Xp on my Pentium 1 333Mhz with 128 MB RAM 2 GB HDD.
Install more memory (If you could find One, these days)
Install a Big Heatsink with FAN.
Get a New PCI 8 MB Graphics Card.
Put a new Gigabyte Lan Card (Via Rrhine will also do) Strict no to

Here's What You Need to Use Windows XP Home / Professional • PC with three hundred megahertz or better processor clock pace advocated; 233 MHz minimal required (unmarried or twin processor process);* Intel Pentium/Celeron loved ones, or AMD K6/Athlon/Duron loved ones, or suitable processor advocated • 128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or better advocated (sixty four MB minimal supported; would possibly prohibit efficiency and a few elements) • one million.five gigabytes (GB) of to be had tough disk area* • Super VGA (800 x six hundred) or better-choice video adapter and track • CD-ROM or DVD force • Keyboard and Microsoft Mouse or suitable pointing gadget

It will run. How well is a different matter. I expect that it will probably not give you the best performance trying to play games or anything else that requires fast processing speed.
Web browsing may even be too much for it, depending on which websites you go to.

Not likely. It might install, but it probably wouldn't run very well. The RAM would be critical, too, and since the P2 doesn't address a lot of RAM, in most cases, I think it would be very difficult.

Ya. I have installed. Its works fine. But you cant expect it to run to your desires. It will run, but it might not run very well. It is recommended when you just need it as a server or usic system or any other computer where you have less interaction. Good luck.
