A computer can use up to 26 drive letters. Drive letters A and B are reserved for floppy disk drives, but you can assign these letters to removable drives if the computer does not have a floppy disk drive. Hard disk drives in the computer receive letters C through Z

An "unlimited" number of logical drives may be created in an extended partition. The reality is you're limited by the number of available drive letters and the amount of hard drive space available for creating drives.

Drive letters A and B are reserved for floppy disk drives, letter C for primary system partition, that leaves 23 more letters available.

1) from your choices, I would have to say 24. You can only use letters for drives, so with 26 letters in the English alphabet, that is the best choice.

2)Optical - light =optical

3) Formatting

4)Defragmenting - in theory, anyways, some system files and other files cannot be moved during a defrag operation.

5)C$ - this is the logical choice, since all computers with an OS on a hard drive would have at least a C: drive. A & B are usually used for removable media drives (floppies) D: could or could not be another hard drive.

6) Set warning level to.....

7)Journalizing, as in recording the changes.(something MS "borrowed" from Unix.)

8) Compression

9) Device Properties

You shouldn't partition your hdd unless you've got a good reason (such as using another file-system for the new partition), because the size of your drive is quite small, you'll be not only wasting space but also having trouble with the MFT sooner or later. In case you do need to, you should go with Partition-Magic, although it's not free, so beware. Performance would most likely suffer because of the extra MFT. If you want to have a system hdd, you should get a separate physical disk instead of a logical partition. Good luck.
