So I did a clean reinstall the other day but unable to get sound on my dell dimension E512 desktop computer. I have installed drivers until I am blue in the face. Basically when I go to into Device Manager and there are exclamation points over Sigmatel High Definition AudioCodec and Multi Audio Controller. I have reinstalled drivers, restarted the computer, down all that I can do. HELP!!! I am about to go all office space on this computer. :(

Install the audio drivers, they can be found on dells homepage. I had to try several different drivers though last time i had a similar problem. The drivers dell showed was the wrong ones. But as long as you know what controller it is you only have to google for that controller to find the driver.

hardware ID's can also be used to find the drivers.

You need to install the audio drivers and most likely some others.

Still missing sound drivers, or installed incorrect drivers for that hardware.

Check the control panel to make sure it's on. Don't smash it yet.
