Question:
PC Tech Help!: BIOS is Stuck in Raid Configuration? Can't Detect Drives?

The Problem:

I build this PC new about a month ago. Everything worked wonderfully for about a month. One day, out of the blue, my PC decided to reboot itself and now I am struggling with the following issues.

• If I let the boot process attempt to boot into windows normally, it results in a “detect drives done, no any drives found” error followed by a black screen with an unresponsive flashing cursor.

• Bios is stuck at some kind of raid configuration screen and can’t move beyond this bios screen (it is completely stuck)

Things I have tried to do to fix this issue:

• I have removed the bios battery from the mother board and put it back in about 30 seconds later in an attempt to reset bios.

• I have booted into windows safe mode in hopes of rolling back windows to a functioning state. Unfortunately I can’t seem to get a mouse or key board to work at all in safe mode. (I thought this was very strange.)

I have scoured the internet in hopes of an answer or even a clue as to what is wrong with my PC. This investigation makes me think it has something to do with my drives being in IDE mode in bios. I would change IDE to something else but bios is stuck in the strange raid configuration screen. I have extremely valuable information on my hard drives and would really rather not reformat unless all hope is lost. Thank you so much for your time. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. I have pictures if you’re willing to provide an email address or text number I can send them to.

Hi there:

Nice machine, top of line hardware. The one thing that you don't say is what os is running, so I'm going to assume win 7. When it shutdown and rebooted did you get any error message ie: critical stop or blue screen.

I wouldn't tear down and rebuild as that my not be the issue. Some things to try:

Check the manual for the mobo, I did a quick check (as I have seen these MSI before. On some of the Big Bang boards there is a "clear CMOS button on the back panel, if not there will be an internal jumper to clear the cmos. Check the manual and try that.

Since you list a SSD 128 gb drive, I assume that will be the boot drive. try disconnecting the sata drive and see if it boots.

If all else fails disconnect all non-essential components and try to boot into the bios, ie all drives (ssd, sata, dvd) and see what happens.

Since this is a new machine there is a possibility that you may be having a hardware failure issues (anything that will go wrong usually happens within the first few weeks).

The bottom line is that raid config is "usually" set in the bios and you need to get in there to reset it.

Good luck,

Doug

Your troublesome rigidity would have failed. IDE is in many cases the harddrive. the laptop desires to discover it so as that it may then look for abode windows. despite if it is not detecting it then it has probable failed. try unplugging the means for 30 seconds, then attempt to reboot. in case you nevertheless get the message then you pick for a sparkling rigidity.
