Need Advice / Confirmation –
I have a custom built computer that was assembled in 2008 with components from Comp USA and I am in the process of upgrading it. I went back to Comp USA where I first bought the components for advice as to what I would need for the upgrade. I was told that because the 2008 Motherboard and CPU were "high end", that the only thing that I would require for the upgrade was:
1.) A new video (graphics) card (described below)
2.) Additional two (2GB) memory units = (4GB) (described below)
3.) Installation of Windows 7, 64 bit Professional. (described below)

My present existing configuration is:
Operating System: Windows XP Professional
*** (will upgrade to Windows 7, 64 bit): (per Comp USA recommendation)

Mother Board: ASUS # P5N-T Deluxe (adequate for upgrade to Windows 7, 64 bit: (per Comp USA recommendation). (This is in question ???? according to Asus Tech Support)

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad (adequate for handling the Win 7, 64 bit with 8GB of Memory): (per Comp USA recommendation). (This is in question ???? because if I change the motherboard, the CPU will have to change for compatibility)

Memory: Corsair # XMS2, 6400C5C, PC6400, DDR2, 800MHz, DIMM, 4GB
*** (will add another 4GB = 8GB total - all matching): (per Comp USA recommendation.) This too will change due to the Motherboard / CPU change out the memory would go from DDR2 to DDR3.

Power Supply: Cooler Master # RS-850-EMBA - 850 W (more than adequate for the above upgrades): (per Comp USA recommendation.)

Video Card: EVGA 9600GT NVIDIA e-GeForce.
**** (will replace with a EVGA 01G-P3-1561-KR GeForce GTX Ti FPB 1024MB, GDDR5, PCI-Express 2.0 (x16), 2x Dual-Link, DVI-I, 1x Mini-HDMI, DirectX 11, Dual-Slot, SLi Ready, Overclocked Video Card.): (per Comp USA recommendation.)

The rest of the components consists of: (2) 500 GB & (1) 300GB Hard Drives, Cooler
Master Cooling Fans, an Aluminus Tower Case with plenty of room. (all are adequate).

Note: What started out to be a fairly reasonable price upgrade is now turning into an expensive one due to one glitch (if Asus is correct), the simple fact that my existing Motherboard will not be upgradable to Windows 7 and therefore, that starts the chain reaction of requiring additional components.

Dear Valued Customer,
Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service. It's my pleasure to help you with your problem.
About CPU support, you could refer to the following CPU support list for the motherboard on ASUS website:http://support.asus.com.cn/cpusupport/list.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=1&s=22&m=P5N-T%20Deluxe&os=&hashedid=64sh5AD8oYUq7Cp3,

“But I am afraid to say that there is no Windows 7 driver for the motherboard, if needed, you may use the drivers for VISTA to have a test”.
(Drivers for Vista???? - I don't understand - This is what I am questioning????)

Note: Are they saying that because my present motherboard does not have the drivers to install Windows 7, that I will have to spend additionally for another mother board that does have the Win 7 drivers capability and the added expense of the CPU processor to go with the Motherboard as well??? Bummer!

Hi my friend, your motherboard does not support by Windows 7 but as per Asus replied you they were right but it's so hard to extract a driver from an operating system directly to install what your motherboard required drivers if you already got a working operating system on your computer like Windows 7. You can try this... install Windows Vista first then try to upgrade your operating system later to Windows 7. If everything seems to be okay after upgrading to Windows 7 then you must be happy for it. But if not...you need to upgrade your motherboard which will be support by Windows 7. Comp USA gave you the wrong information and you must rely on Asus because they are more expert about their product.
