hello everyone,

I have tried to use all those ways you guys have mentioned but none of them worked. My problem is that I had a virus and malware in my pc, I’ve downloaded antivirus and malwarebyte’s to remove everything that is infected. The problem is that when I reboot my pc and hit F8 and go to REPARE YOUR COMPUTER, a black screen comes up with a download line on the bottom, it runs once then it just get stuck, it says files are loading but I left it for almost an hour which is that not normally the case, it usually open right the way because I’ve tried it on other computers. I have INSPIRON N7010. I’ve tried numerous of ways like formatting, safe mode and through cmd, but it didn’t work out. Please can anyone help with this problem?

Thanks

You should be able to restore the Dell Inspiron like this

1 Turn on the computer.

2 As the computer starts, press on the keyboard until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears on the screen.

Note:

You must press before the Windows logo appears on the screen. If you press after the Windows logo appears on the screen, the Advanced Boot Options menu will not appear on the screen. If you do not see the Advanced Boot Options menu, restart the computer, and then repeat this step until you see the menu on the screen.

3 Press the on the keyboard to select Repair Your Computer on the Advanced Boot Options menu, and then press .

4 Specify the language settings that you want, and then click Next.

5 Log in as a user who has administrative credentials, and then click OK.

6 Click Dell Factory Image Restore.

7 In the Dell Factory Image Restore window, click Next.

8 Click to select the Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition check box.

9 Click Next.

The computer is restored to the default factory configuration.

10 When the restore operation is completed, click Finish to restart the computer.

The software is now installed as it was when the computer was first received.

these are the official instructions from the Dell website and assumes you do not have the Dell recovery disc but still have the original Dell Hard Drive installed.

If you have the Dell recovery discs then this method here is much faster

A little more info would have helped, O.S. Age; Manufacture, for example. You need to ascertain whether you have a partitioned O.S. If this is the case then you have only one problem, how to reinstate this on to a clean disk. That is the situation concisely. Try the following

Factory reset generic

Now, from a completely mains off situation, important, you’re ready to go. This won’t work unless you have a partitioned OS, so you’ve nothing to lose give it a go.

Go: - Switch it on, as it whines-up immediately and continuously tap F10. (This F number can be manufacture dependant) You must start from a power off situation. Until this action brings up on screen a selection of options. This is imperative; you must achieve this before proceeding. Unsuccessful first time, switch off and try again.

One option offered will be - Select “Repair your Computer”, click this. Follow the on screen instruction but the result you’re after is their top option a “Full Destructive Recovery” when presented go for it, don’t be shy, it might frighten you by asking twice.

Follow the on screen instructions and click start, and enter. All you can do now is to sit back and relax, go for a coffee, leave it well alone let it do its own thing, it’ll take about 30 minutes.

Don’t bother to install any drivers (e.g. printer) asked for during the run up as this can easily be done after you have your pc back, in your control.

After the event, and you’re breathing again, you’ll need to install. Your printer disk, a very long boring up date session, this is best done “automatically install MS up dates” over-night, on-line, while you sleep.

You now have your pc back as good as the day you purchased...good luck

I don't know where this F8 key keeps coming from just lately!

You do not use safe mode to go back to the factory settings.

Depending on what motherboard and BIOS you have, when you

first boot you should get a screen telling you which F key to press

to get into the Recovery page.

In most cases it's F12.

From there you can either attempt a repair or a reinstall of the OS.

Also you can't format using Command because an OS can't delete it's self.

Every PC is DIFFERENT

you should NOT be coming HERE to ask how to RECOVER your PC.

download and READ your SETUP guide

From Page 60 it tells you what your options are.

if you were really stupid and dont have your recovery media, then

you may need to talk to DELL

the key is READ THE MANUAL

STOP LISTENING TO ANY OTHER ADVICE

Install a fresh copy of Windows with the installation disks that came with your laptop. If none came with it, call Dell and have them send you a disk
