A friend of mine wanted me to play Minecraft and told me I needed the latest version of Java(version 7), so I went to the website and it said to uninstall my old Java for the best performance because mine was a little out of date(version 6). So I went and uninstalled Java and noticed a few files from downloadable games in my programs folder that I thought I had deleted from my system but turns out I didn't(Dunjinni, Fiesta and Loco) so I uninstalled them while I was at it and was going to install the newest Java and restart my computer, but before I could and when I looked at my desktop, all of my folders and documents that were saved on it had suddenly disappeared.

-"Show Desktop Icons" was clicked and default programs that were still installed showed up just fine.

-I opened up the Desktop folder itself and the folders and files had all disappeared from there as well.

-I checked the recycling bin but they weren't there

-I searched my C: drive and nothing came up

-I scanned my computer for virus' and malware and nothing came up as unusual

-I searched up how to fix it online but couldn't find much of anything that could help. The Window's site said a System's restore wouldn't save deleted files, but I did a system's restore just in case and it didn't fix the problem. All of my files have still vanished without a trace. It still shows document titles in "Recent Documents" but when I click on them it tells me "The item that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved and the shortcut no longer works".

-files, folders, and documents that were not located on my Desktop are completely fine and unaffected. These folders and files showed up before I uninstalled these programs, but at some point vanished after

I had a LOT of files saved onto my desktop that weren't backed up somewhere else(like an idiot) so many of them I can't restore from a back-up since it's been a while since I last did one and many of those files are very recent ones. Many of them are for published works and while most of the graphics I was doing for these works were uploaded to the web and most are retrievable, it's the written documents that are not and that it's pressing I really get back if at all possible.

Is there any way to retrieve these files? Anything I haven't tried yet that might work?
Educated answers only please!
Any and all help is very much appreciated.

I will tell you how you can attempt to, good luck. If you want to view & try to recover your old files- open your new computer case, look at the new hard drive, set the jumper to master if it's not already, then take your old drive and set the jumpers to slave, hook up you old hard drive on the same ribbon as the new hard drive is on, there should be an open spot. The red stripe on the ribbon should be facing toward the four wire power cord, the ribbon should, however only go in one way, depending on the ribbon you have, don't bother securing your old drive (screwing it in) just let it sit there, don't rub it on the carpet or let metal touch the board if it's exposed though. Turn on your computer go and exlore your old drive and see what you canrecover if anything. Some times computer repair people don't want to offer tech help and just SAY it's destroyed, when it may be repairable. If it has a virus (why it crashed) I would be careful ! also, creat a new folder on your desktop and drop and drag the files you want to there.

I'm not sure what's happened to your computer, but...

If you manage to fix things, I recommend you download Java from here. I never uninstall Java. I just update to the newest version:

Hope this helps.
