My laptop is a Hewlett Packard, and I have Windows XP . I understand I have viruses on my laptop . At one point, eight new icons appeared on my desktop . I certainly didn't put them there . They were PornoTube.com, NudeTube.com, Spam001, Spam003, Troj000, YouPorn.com, Defense Center, and Defense Center Support . I don't like pornographic websites, and I wouldn't mind having Defense Center or Defense Center Support, but I can't afford virus protection right now . I don't know what Spam001, Spam003, or Troj000 are supposed to be . I was able to put these icons in my recycle bin through trial and error . I kept getting a window that said "If you want to uninstall the program, use 'Add or Remove Programs' in 'Control Panel' " . Why did these icons appear on my desktop ? Are these programs still on my computer ? How do I get into "Control Panel" ? How do I find the "Add or Remove Programs" feature ? Thank you in advance for your answers ?

Defense Center is a antivirus scan trying to convince you into providing credit card details. You should remove it, as it is spread by trojans and other parasites. These folders are more or less harmless, just to scare you. Malwarebytes or Spyware doctor should get rid of it. If you have problems installing them, read this guide: http://www.2-viruses.com/remove-defense-center

ok, first of all those will not go away by going to control pannel to add remove programs. those are viruses, spyware and maware. do this instead. its a bit of work, but in half an hour ur computer will be back to normal..

Step #1. Restart, and before the computer logo comes on( dell, hp, or whatever ur computer is) PRESS F 8 A COUPLE OF TIMES-- a black screen with white lettering will appear. with ur u and down arrows, select SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING) the computer should look weird as it starts up in safe mode( don't worry/its all fine)

Step #2. Download Malware-bytes from: http://www.malwarebytes.org/ ( the free one)

Here are the instructions after you download it:

Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program. At the end, be sure a check-mark is placed next to the following:

Update Malware-bytes’ Anti-Malware

Launch Malware-bytes’ Anti-Malware

Then click Finish.

If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.

Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.

When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.

Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

Step# 3 Download AVAST from :http://download.cnet.com/Avast-Free-Anti…

On the lest side, click DOWNLOAD NOW

Follow the same steps from Malware-bytes( it will be a bit different since it is a different program, but the essentials are the same: install AVAST, run scan, check found results, and remove them)

After this, restart your computer, and everything should be back to normal. ( these are my instructions) However, if you want more, you can always go here for even more detailed info.

Do not download more then necessary. One of the biggest myths and mistakes made by people in general, is thinking that the more anti virus programs you have installed on your computer the better it is.THAT IS A MISTAKE AND A MYTH. The reason for that is because anti virus programs counteract and overwrite each other, thus errors in removing viruses. One ativirus an one anti malware, is more then enough.

Yes, malware-bytes, it is not only for malware/spyware, BUT ALSO for viruses. It

You need to do a full virus and spyware removal with a system tune up.

Follow these instructions if you want your PC to perform properly.

Start your computer in Safe Mode. To do this, turn on your PC, after the boot screen loads, start tapping F8 until a screen appears giving you Startup Options. Choose "Safe Mode." You may be asked to choose an Operating System as well, if there is more than One OS available, choose Windows XP.

When your PC boots into Windows, log in as the Administrator. A box will appear, click Yes to enter the OS in Safe Mode. Click on the Start button, go to Run, type in "msconfig" (without the quotation marks) and hit enter.

A box will appear, click on the "Startup" tab and un-check everything. Click on Apply, then Click on Ok, then Restart your PC.

When your PC restarts it will load the software that it needs to operate properly such as the Video Drivers, Audio Drivers, Ethernet Drivers, etc., but nothing else.

If you are using a Wireless Internet Connection, do not un-check the Wireless Internet Program or your WiFi will not work.

Now you need to download and install some free software and run a lot of scans to fully clean your PC.

Go here http://www.SpywareTerminator.com and download Spyware Terminator.

I have been using this program on every computer I have worked on in the last 2 years and it works every time.

During setup, you will be asked if you want to integrate CLAM Anti Virus into Spyware Terminator, say Yes. You will also be asked if you want to install the Crawler Toolbar, say Yes. The Crawler Toolbar is a filter for your Internet Explorer or FireFox browser and will alert you if you come across a website that is potentially dangerous.

Next, go to http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Ad… and download Advanced System Care. It is another free program that works very well.

One more thing, go to http://www.wisecleaner.com/download.html and download the Wise Registry Cleaner Free Edition as well as the Wise Disk Cleaner Free Edition.

Run the Spyware Terminator program first and make sure that you run a Full Virus and Spyware Removal scan so the program picks up everything and not just the Spyware files.

Run the Wise Disk Clean Up program.

Run the Wise Registry Cleaner.

After you are done cleaning the Registry, use the Wise Registry Cleaner to Defragment the Registry. After Registry Defragmentation is complete, restart your PC.

When your PC restarts, go to the Start Menu, go to Program, go to Accessories, go to System Tools, go to Disk Clean Up, choose the C: Drive, make sure that the "Compress Old Files" check-box is checked and the "Recycle Bin" is checked.

After Disk Clean Up is done, go back to the System Tools area in the Start Menu and click on Disk Defragmentation. Choose the C: Drive and click on "Defragment."

This is going to take a while, but when you are done, your PC will run almost as good as new and it will have all the software you need to keep it clean for as long as you own it.

To open control panel just click on the start menu and it should be on the right side of the start menu. If not just open my computer, go up a level, and select control panel. Your best bet of removing the virus/ malware however is getting AVG and Malwarebytes and running full scans on the computer to remove the programs.
