I'm not familiar with video cards or interchanging them. What type would I need to replace the faulty one on my Gateway FX 6800 desktop? Also, a video card is the same as a graphics card right?

I'm not concerned about cost, but about quality.

Well, we would need to know which one is installed right now. Gateway lists 2 cards that were installed, depending on which options you purchased. An ATI 4850 or Nvidia GTS 150.

Also, which of the 3 power supplies came with your computer? 500 W / 750 W / 1000 W?

All that there is to replacing a video card is taking out the screw which holds it in the case, removing the video card and then reversing the process with the new card. Then install the drivers that come with the new card.

All you need to check is that the card you get fits a PCIeX16 (version doesn't matter) slot and the power requirements don't exceed your power supply's output.

Yes, video card = graphics card.
