Hi Sara

being an engineer myself i too have used what you call the Pc. what you real mean is you have been using te Microsoft software which is full of bugs and other irritations such as viruses.

well yes they do as you say get slower and slower as time passes.

There has always been an alternative in your lifetime that has been UNIX which has been around since the 1960's. but it will only easily run on a apple Macintosh computer.

there was a very clever dutch man linus who in the 1990's managed to port unix to the intel and amd processors used in what you call the PC.

so what is the the PC it is a computer it has no preferences to Microsoft at all it is just a computer.

This is a common mistake made by many.

you can load what you like or should be able to but as Microsoft did some deals with some manufactures over the years some have been difficult to load anything but the awful Microsoft software rubbish.

Now apple have also switch over to the Intel processors so we now have a much more stable operating system running on dual core and multicore processors with out all the horrors of what Microsoft has caused to happen to some good hardware.

that is enough of the knocking but here is the truth.

by using Intel processors with unix we have a much faster and use able operating platform which has virtually no problem with a virus as it is a structured system.

It has proved itself in the fields of business and home use especially in the areas which you are interested in, Auto cad And art and design and many engineers swear by them as they give faultless operation when compared to anything microsoft.

I KNOW THIS SOUNDS LIKE A SALES PITCH.

but like you i have been with the Microsoft problem now for some 17 years and it does not get better in fact it gets worse in my humble opinion.

i have only found apple in the last 9 months and i am kicking myself for not trying it years ago.

having worked on unix mainframes in the past as a systems manager with a large corporation it was always so much simpler before bill gates arrived.

So you want speed and reliability well you will get it without the virus hassle with Mac book pro.

The only reason why PC gets slow quickly is the user.

Get a good antivirus:

Best pay antivirus: BitDefender or ESET Nod32

Best free antivirus: Avast or Avira

Get a good firewall: Zone Alarm or Comodo

DO NOT use IE (Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player or any other program or software from Microsoft, as they all sucks and were specifically designed with loopholes to allow virus infection.

Use Firefox or Google Chrome or even Opera for web browser and install the WOT (Web Of Trust add-on tool.

Use CCleaner and Malwarebytes.

Periodically (at least every 2 weeks) do a disk clean up followed by a disk check for errors and a disk defragment on all hard drives and partitions.

Access your start up menu and disable all programs from start up except for your antivirus and firewall.

Your PC will be so much faster and you will be worry free.

Macs are overpriced shinny teenage toys, not good for any gaming or school related apps.

Also you get far less in terms of hardware specs for a whole lot more money than in a PC.

PC because almost every program in existence is compatible with Windows and you don't have to pay out the *** to get one.

I would say PC would fit your needs better too, as AutoCAD requires a powerhouse CPU, and macs are pretty much the alienware of the non-gaming world--- way too expensive. You could get a PC with twice the processing power of a similarly priced mac.

And as said before, "The pc getting 'slower' is user error.".

Macs are for retarded people who need something easy, or for hipsters, or for little kids who like it because it's the cool thing.

User/retard friendly. Something goes wrong, send it in. Don't even think about fixing it yourself because if you bought a Mac you are retarded and will screw something up.

People pretend that they like Macs because it has a "better OS" but you show any Mac retard Windows and Mac OS next to each other, they can't tell the difference, because they are retarded.

If you want a computer just because of the brand, or the status symbolism of it, you are retarded. "Hey look, it has a half eaten apple on it, plus it is white! Oh and it's so overpriced for what it is, it must be good!!!" Typical Mac retard.

Mac retards don't know anything about hardware, and they think Macs have super awesome hardware just because it is expensive.

A Mac is like a Ford Escort in a Lamborghini body, sure it looks nice, but it runs like a $12,000 car and has the price tag of a $150,000 car.

A PC is like a Lamborghini in a Porshe body, at a Ford Escort price, it may not look as nice as a Lamborghini, but it runs like one, and looks like a Porshe, which is still nice, plus you get it at a Ford Escort price.

Mac users are 55% retards and 45% hipsters who think they are smart but are actually retarded, so Mac users are 100% retarded.

lol hum... I think you are misusing your laptop that is why it's slowing down. I bought a toshiba sometimes in 2008. It's not any slower than the first day I got it. Most people don't understand that laptop need maintenance just like a car you have to clean out it hard drive, dust out it's filter and put it on laptop cooler ect. (espcially since your doing autocad and pro engineering which takes pushes your comp to it's peek). But since you have the money I suggest you invest in a ssd type laptop and try gaming brand laptops like Asus, MSI, Alineware, Xplorer, Razer etc... Since these laptop are build for performances. But I still think the first thing you should do is learn how to maintain your laptop even if you switch to apple, apple is still a computer and it still slow down if you abuse it.

GNU master race reporting in.

The pc getting 'slower' is user error. You load any machine with enough and it will have problems. IF it's harder to do this on a mac, it's only because there are less frivolous programs, or they at least control them better. The one and only good thing about mac is that it's based off bsd.

Seems autocad isn't ported to *nix yet, so that would be an issue, and means you'll have to use a 2nd rate OS.

pcs are generaly more popular

macs are sorta the new "in" thing as someone else mentioned

most people who have computers play games and well a lot of game and maybe other things just arent compatible with mac. if i were you i'd get a pc ive never liked macs

The main difference is that Macintosh is a toy designed for posers who just want to be part of the "in" crowd. These are the same people who drink Starbucks lattes and drive a Prius to make a statement.

Prolly a mac because they are more of a productive computer for schooling. They do well with AutoCAD and Pro Eng. If you want a PC, those are for gamers and beginners. But if your more advanced, try getting a Mac... If you don't like it, you can always return it within 14 days. :D

Comparing Mac's to PC's is like comparing a person with an iq of 150 to a person with 20. Mac's are better in every single way, gaming performance, quality of pictures, etc. It also looks much better.
