For running slow there are many causes:

Microsoft Registry Problems = Slow Computer!

Spyware/Adware

RAM

De-Fragmenting

Etc.

Below can help you speed up your pc:

Manage your startup:

Open your Start menu -> Click Run -> In the command screen type "msconfig.exe" -> In the "system configuration utility", click either "service" or "startup" tab -> Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.

De-Fragmenting

1. Right click of C Disk.

2. Click properties.

3. Click tools tab.

4. Click "Defragment now".

5. Click Defragment.

If your virus/spyware free, there are a couple things you can do get your computer working faster. If you using your computer for normal stuff and not gaming. You don't always need more RAM you just need to perform a few maintenance task.

First, if you haven't cleaned your registry in a while. This is necessary. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events produces a key. That key needs your PC's resources and free space. So, if you clean your registry, you make more resources available for speed. Do a registry scan if you got more than 20 errors you should clean it.

http://www.delete-computer-history.com/what-is-the-best-registry-cleaner.html

2. Clear your Windows cache files, this is your temporary file. It can grow up to a large volume and stop your computer from using RAM properly. In a sense slow it down by preventing it from using free space. Here is how:

1. Quit Internet Explorer, Firefox, or any other web browser

2. Click Start, click "Control Panel", and then double-click "Internet Options".

3. On the General tab, click "Delete Files" under Temporary Internet Files.

4. In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the "Delete all offline content" check box , and then click OK.

5. Click OK.

3. Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by altering your msconfig. Here is how:

1. Open your Start menu.

2. Click Run

3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe"

4. In the "system configuration utility",click either "service" or "startup" tab

5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.

6. Click "OK"

you'll need to do the following things:

1. go to control panel -> add or remove programs

2. identify programs/software installed on your machine that you RARELY use and probably could go without, programs which are over 100 mb in size.

3. uninstall them

4. repeat this process until all the programs you dont use/want are uninstalled from your machine.

The next thing you can do is go to My Documents and look at all the 'saved' junk in there, its a common folder where we save a lot of rubbish for temporary means.

Identify all the executable and unzipped downloads which you are CERTAIN you why need again, if u can back these up on a blank CD/DVD do it - otherwise if u have access to the internet and can download them for free, DELETE them now.

NOW - do this - click on start -> Run

type in 'msconfig'

The program fires up, you should spot 6 tabs - find the one that is called 'startup' (if u have less than 6 tabs or more, ignore that - just look for startup as i told you to)

If u know what youre doing - then you CHOOSE which programs will run on windows startup.

deselecting a number of these programs will speed up your machine's startup time.

usualy you can get rid of abode updater, googledesktopsearch, yahoo tool bar, printer software etc.

reboot.

if u notice a difference great - if not - maybe you need to run a DEFRAG.

try a scandisk first, it wont hurt you - it'll take time but you gotta do a scandisk SOMETMIE in your pc's life.

if u like, skip it entirely - and run DEFRAG.

defrag your computer hard disk.

reboot

if u use ie7/8 - delete the temp files etc

if u use mozilla go to tools and delete private data

Sorry to hear about your computer performance problems. Before you make the mistake of buying a whole new computer, why not try to perform some speed tweaks to fully optimize your CURRENT system. Here are a few you can try:

1. Remove unnecessary startup programs.

2. Defrag your system and run a disk cleanup

3. Clean up the Windows registry

If you are not a computer expert and want a program that can automatically perform all three try downloading this software:

1. Remove Spyware and Viruses

* Spyware and viruses are a leading cause of computer slowing. See this article to learn how to remove them.

* Update and run your spyware and virus software at least weekly.

* If you do not have tools installed to protect against malware, spyware, and viruses, download a free copy of AVG Anti-Virus 8.0 (free for personal use). Also, Microsoft's Windows Defender is a widely-used anti-spyware tool that is currently distributed freely for users with a "Genuine" copy of Windows. Windows Defender is also included with other Microsoft services and products such as Live OneCare and Vista.

* Download and install Mozilla Firefox from http://www.mozilla.com. It will allow you to import all of your Internet Explorer settings, and is much less prone to malware than Microsoft Internet Explorer. It will prompt you with a "Set as Default Browser" message. Check "Don't show this again" and click "Yes". Firefox also has a cool feature to delete cookies, cache, and temporary internet files each time you close it. Use this. It can speed up your internet experience.

* If you have a particularly difficult infection, try using the Quick Virus Remover. It is a free utility that is not a replacement for commercial products, but can be helpful for removing some of the most common viruses.

2. Defragment Your Computer - This will place similar files physically closer on the hard disk to improve load speeds.

* Click start, again, then click run.

* Type, "dfrg.msc" in the text field.

* Click Defrag to start it.

3. Perform a disk clean up.

* Click start in the bottom left corner, then click run.

* Type, "cleanmgr.exe" in the text field.

* Press "okay". This can take a while if you have never done it before.

Image:Cleanmgr.gif

4. Remove unwanted software.

* Click start, then click control panel.

* Click add/remove programs.

* Highlight any old software you do not use and then click "remove".

5. Stop unwanted Start-Up programs.

* Run msconfig

* Choose startup box

* Select uncheck programs you don't want to run on startup

*

OR

*

* Install the software you have just downloaded.

* Open control panel, select Start up.

* Disable any programs you do not want load automatically.

Image:Stucp.gif

* Disable Services you do not use or need. Open control panel, open Administrative Tools, and select Services. Disabling the wrong Services may lead to serious problems that you may not notice right away. Please consult a reference such as overclockersclub.comfor information on specific Windows XP Services. If you do not know what it is, do not disable the service

Image:Services_example_wikihow_388.gif

6. Make Windows load faster

* Click Start, then Run.

* Type in 'msconfig' and press enter.

* Click on the BOOT.INI tab at the top.

* Over to the right there will be a box labeled Timeout with 30 in it. Change the 30 to a 3.

7. Speed Up Processing Time

* Turning off the fancy Windows XP graphics will noticeably increase the speed of your computer.

* Go to Start, (Settings), Control Panel, System. NOTE: You may need to 'Switch to Classic Mode' to see the System applet.

* Go to the Advanced tab. Click the Settings button under Performance.

* Select the 'Adjust for best performance' radio button, then Apply, and OK.

* The graphics aren't as flashy, but your computer will run a lot faster.

8. Speed Up RAM For Gaming

* Go to Start, (Settings), Control Panel, System. (This is just like the step above this.)

* Go to the Advanced tab. Click the Settings button under Performance.

* Now switch to this Advanced tab, and click on 'Change' under Virtual Memory.

* You will see the 'Initial Size (MB)' and the Maximum Size (MB)'.

* Change 'Initial Size' to the same value as 'Maximum Size' then click set.

o NOTE This setting will help your gaming by speeding your computer up.

[edit] Tips

* If this is your first defrag, do it after the disk clean up twice, then a disk defrag, and then another disk clean up. It is suggested to defrag your hard drive monthly.

* For best results, run defragmenter last after performing all other steps.

* Do all the above steps quite often to maintain the speed of your PC.

* Run an alternate Windows shell to save on RAM usage and boost performance (Shell Shocked: Alternative shells for Windows). Although more expensive, installing additional RAM is a better option. Running an alternate shell is a compatibi

Here are the two most important things you will need to do:

 1.  Clean your computer registry.

2.  Install a good anti-virus for future protection.

The thing is, to get a software that can do both and keep your computer protected now and in the future.

For free options you could try bestfreedownloads.com

Do be careful with free stuff, because if they don't work the way you like, and you want to remove them from you computer, you may have a problem with that.   With stuff you buy, there is usually good support.

I have several other articles you can read to help you find the best solution.

All the best,

You can use a registry cleaner to clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some registry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".

Every time you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Registry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!

There are some comparison and review of TOP 5 registry cleaners.

You can download and scan your computer for free.

Yes - I assume you are using Windows.

When it is booted, go to Start-Run and type in msconfig and click enter.

A popup will appear that says "System Configuration"

Go to the "Startup" tab and it will list all the software that loads into memory when your PC is rebooted.

Untick the items that you really don't need to auto-start. Things like MSN, Skype, MS Office, iPod/iTunes, Quicktime, etc.

Make sure you don't remove any important things for your operating system and your anti-virus.

Click apply and reboot your PC. This should greatly improve your boot time.

Good luck and enjoy those extra minutes of your life.

That depends on a number of things;

eg:

the operating system you run

the specifications of your computer

or simply the amount of software you have installed.

you have 3 options

1) buy new parts for your computer

2)delete all unnecessary software installed on your computer (control panel > add or remove programs

3) reformat your computer (call your local computing shop for advice)

but I'm sure that will do the trick

Increasing the amount of RAM can do absolute wonders! It also solves some problems later on too like when you have too many programs open. More RAM = more programs able to be opened at the same time.

your pc is slow because

you have too many software in your computer those try to run as well while your operating system is uploading.

there are many complicated way to boost up the speed.but most easiest and safest way is

turn off those software's while window or your operating system try to upload.

you can do it by simply rite click on them and click on exit .

First, have a good look through and delete any files/programs that you don't need.

I'd also suggest running the Disk Defragment- search for "defrag" in the help&support centre.

Right, you're going to have to put aside say 30 to 45 minutes, but go through all the processes they show on this webpage:

Defragment: If your computer is running slowly it may be because your files are scattered all over your hard drive. When you save a file on your computer it goes to the first available space on your hard drive. When that gets filled up it stores other parts of your file in the next available place, then the next place, and so on. When files become fragmented like this, the computer has to spend time searching the hard drive to piece them back together. This process slows you and your system down. Luckily, this is a fairly easy fix. Simply follow these steps: For a PC, go to Start menu and open your Programs menu. From there go to Accessories then Program Tools. You should see the icon for the Disk Defragmentation program in that menu. Simply click on it and windows will begin the defrag process. Be advised, however, that this process usually takes a long time so it could be something you set up to run before you go to bed or before you go to work in the morning.

Clean Up Registry: Not everyone agrees that a PC registry clean-up is much of a help, but it can’t hurt to try if you’re frustrated with your computer speed. Before you do anything to your registry, however, make sure you have it backed up as making changes to the registry can have big affects on how your computer runs. Don’t delete things from the registry when you are unsure of the function, as it can wreck havoc on your computer. Be cautious and try to use a free registry-cleaning program like CCleaner, which will not only clean out your registry but it will take care of several of some other issues listed here as well.

Remove Old Programs: Have things installed on your computer that you haven’t used in ages? Do you even know what’s installed on your computer? It’s possible all these old programs could clog up your hard drive and slow your computer down. Go to your Start menu and select the Control Panel and then Add or Remove programs. It will bring up a list of all the programs that are installed on your computer and also tell you how often you use them. If the answer is “never,” you can most likely safely uninstall the programs and free up valuable space.

Keep Spyware in Check: Spyware seems to be almost unavoidable these days for anyone who uses the Internet. Virus protection programs often catch the worst culprits but there is always something that sneaks through, and these culprits can slow your computer down. If you think you might have a spyware infection, or if you just want to be on the safe side, you can use a free program like AdAware to check your computer for spyware.

Repair Disk Errors: While defragmentation might take care of the worst of your disk problems, you can also be slowed down by errors in other places on your disk drive. As you store and delete files on your hard drive, bad sectors can develop. These sectors can make accessing or saving files difficult and they can slow your computer down. You can check for problems by running another Windows utility. Go to your Start menu and click on My Computer. When the My Computer window comes up right click on the drive you want to check for errors. When the drop down menu shows up go to properties. This will bring a box up and you’ll click on Tools. Check the box that says scan and attempt recovery of bad sectors then click start. Once this is done you’ll be given the option to fix the bad sectors, and you’ll want to select “yes.” Fixing any bad areas in your drives can add some significant speed to your system.

Get Rid of Temporary Files: Windows is notorious for storing temporary files that can clog up your hard drive and slow down your computer. These temporary files aren’t going to go anywhere unless you ask them to, and that’s where the disk cleanup tool can come in handy. To run an automatic disk cleanup just go to Programs under your Start menu. It’s under Accessories and then System Tools. There you should see the icon for disk cleanup. You’ll simply need to run the cleanup program and it will determine what you can safely get rid of on your computer (this will usually be just temporary files and things you’ve yet to empty from the recycle bin). You’d be surprised how much room you can free up by eliminating these files.

Clean Up Your Desktop: Some of you, and you know who you are, have virtual desktops that are just as messy as your real desktops. This may not seem like a big deal, but it’s important enough that windows will give you little nudging reminders to clean up your desktop (which, if you’re like me, you promptly ignore). Go through all the stuff you have on your desktop, delete the shortcuts you no longer use, and organize all the remaining miscellaneous files.

Empty Your Inbox: If you’re using Outlook or Outlook Express as your email client you might want to check to see just how many old emails you have hanging around. These could be clogging up your memory and causing your computer to run more slowly than it should. If you haven’t checked that spam f
