Sounds like you are experiencing a Memory issue. Possibly your Ram is going bad...have it tested....if it is indeed going bad...replace it....Possibly a good time for an upgrade in the amount of RAM too...

reasons:

1. may be you have installed too many softwares

2. may be due to low virtual memory

3. may be ram is not suffiecient for the memory

4. may be your virus definitions are out of date and your system is affected by virus

solution:

1. first remove all the additional softwares on your computer or fomat it

2. though you have a large memory there is no enough ram so increase the capcity of the ram.

3. update your virus definitions periodically

4. increase the virtual memory by increasing the size of c drive

5. you have said that your dvd writer stops responding resulting in cd writing error this is because of low buffer or virtual memory

so try to do these things

your computer may function better

all the best

system hangs due to OS reasons!

or virus problems

the third reason could be too many start up processes!

i think this is the reason! if u installed too many softwares and during the software installation u may have selected 'run in start up'

this selection runs the software the minute u start the computer along with the OS files!

for this go to task bar click'properties'

goto cpu usage see that it is 2% or less when u r idle.

mov to processes..they should not be more than 50 processes!

also do this

delete as many desktop short cuts as possible

make sure that ur c drive is not full!

update ur virus scan

donot use animated wall paper..

i hope my ans satisfied u

i wish u all the best!!!!!

The quick fix is to usually upgrade your RAM to 1 GB. Just in case, you should run a virus and spyware check. If issues continue, take your computer to a service place.

what i think about your problem is that you may be having the following problems:

1).Disk errors-your hard disk must have got scratches and thats why takes a long time to read.this causes the system to hang.fFor this, run a disk check(right click the drive(s) and select tols tab).

2).memory issue-For this try to increase the virtual memory(right click My computer and then advanced option)

If the above solutions don't work then try replacing the Hard disk.

Uninstall any grafix files that abosrb u r RAM. Adjust ur CPU position b4 using DVD Drive. If u dropped ur CPU or if suddenly it recieved a jerk then adjust cords and chips inside CPU.

2), For monitor adjust ur Graphics card resolution. Try out reducing resolution with low graphics useage for other files.

I think it might be the heat sink problem. Check out all the heat sinks inside your CPU works fine, especially the one meant for the processor. If your CPU is getting over heated better fix some heat sinks if you have not..

may be you are not uninstalled the previous os properly, due to this registers are not cleared properly. if you formatted in quick format you should get this problem. to avoid slow proceessing go to run in that type "msconfig". on that window clear unwanted applications, like nero check, avg .

Try out these tips........

use softwares like winzp manager/customizer xp.

never use pc cilin/ norton/mcafe...as they tax a lot of resources...

use AVAST antivirus....free,easy,fast & effective...

a few tips

1.) First I'll tell some Registry tricks, which can be applied without any problem or doubt and I believe these tricks will surely help in increasing the performance of ur windows. Just copy paste following code in Notepad and save the file with any name but the extension of the file must be .REG, and after that run the file:

----------------------------------------------------

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace\DelegateFolders\{59031a47-3f72-44a7-89c5-5595fe6b30ee}]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Move To]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\Shell\DosHere]

2.) Right-click on Desktop and select Properties, Now in the new window goto Appearance tab and click on Effects button:

Now in the new opened window uncheck the following options:

a.) Use the following transition effect for menus & tooltips.

b.) Show shadows under menus.

c.) Show window contents while dragging.

3.) Right-click on My Computer icon on Desktop and select Properties (or press key + key), now goto Advanced tab in new window and click on Settings button in Performance section:

Now uncheck all the options in Visual Effects, but u can remain following options checked acc. to ur choice:

a.) Show window contents while dragging.

b.) Smooth edges of screen fonts.

c.) Use common tasks in folders (If u use the left side pane in My computer, I don't use it.)

d.) Use drop shadows on icon labels on the desktop. (to make the desktop icons label transparent.)

e.) Use visual styles on windows and buttons. (If u use XP themes.)

or for best results click optimize for best performance.

4.) Open Tools -> Folder Options and click on View tab:

Now uncheck following options:

a.) Automatically search for network folders & printers.

b.) Display file size information in folder tips.

c.) Display simple folder view in Explorer's Folders list.

d.) Show encrypted or compressed NTFS files in color. (I don't use this option.)

e.) Show pop-up description for folder and desktop icons.

f.) Use simple file sharing.

Other remaining options are totally based upon user's requirements, they usually don't affect the performance! So u can enable/disable them acc. to ur requirements.

5.) Right-click on My Computer icon on Desktop and select Manage. Now goto Services & Applications -> Services. Here you can set many services to Manual, which u don't want to start as soon as the windows starts. Following is a thread, in which I posted a small tutorial for knowing about which service should be set to MANUAL and which should be set to AUTOMATIC:

6.) Start -> Run and type msconfig, now goto Startup tab and uncheck the entries, which u don't want to start automatically with the windows, like u can get display settings utility entry there, and many more.

7.) Open Sound & Audio Devices in Control Panel (or type mmsys.cpl in RUN), goto Sounds tab and select No Sounds in Sound Scheme section. Or u can remain some of ur favorite sounds there but set Exit Windows, Start Windows, Windows Logoff, Windows Logon to (None).

8).Disable unnecessary services like system restore, remote help, indexing services etc....

Start>Run> & type "services.msc"

Set the following to automatic::::

Application Layer Gateway

Background Intelligent Transfer Service

Cryptographic Services

Com+ Event System

DCOM Server Process Launcher

DHCP Client

DNS Client

Event Log

IPSEC Services(only for internet/network)

Logical Disk Manager(For managing partitions within control panel)

Network Connections(only for internet/network)

Protected Storage

Remote Access Connection Manager

Remote Procedure Call (RPC) (NEVER disable this)

set the follwing to disable(manual if you need them)

IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service

9). Virtual Memory

go to my computer properties>Advanced>settings>advanced>change

do not let XP use the pagging file on C:(one which contains ur OS).

change it to some other partition, Which has max free space & set the pagging file to that partition set the size of the partition as much as you can afford.

Please check the SMPS, as you are using so many devices you need to have atleast 400watts power supply.
