I have a newly assembled computer having p4mbms motherboard, having a VIA VT 8237R Southbridge chipset, having an AGP slot, a Pentium 4 3.06 GHZ Processor, A WD 1600 JS 160 GB SATA hard disk. When I load Windows Vista, it says that it does not detect my hard drive and tells me to load drivers. When I load the latest drivers (meant for Widows Vista), it still refuses to load the operating system saying that I do not have updated drivers.

I would be grateful for any assistance in this regard since I do not think it to be a driver related problem. It would also help if I could have information on optimum cpu/system temperatures.

First of all check if the BIOS recognize the HDD by entering BIOS (press delete when you boot your system). If it doesn't there is a problem with the HDD or the SATA cable or the power supply(try another SATA cable plag it in SATA 0 on the motherboerd). If it does recognize it then the problem is that Vista don't.I haven't work with Vista yet but with XP in order to install additional drivers you put the driver in a floppy disk and when your system boots from the window's CD/DVD it ask you to press F6(I thing) in order to install additional drivers.

Hope that helps you...

Good luck...

Try changing the cable of the system and see that the hdd is also working may be see that is in working conditions there is no specific drivers for the vista to install drivers for the hdd.

i'm assuming you purchased your laptop new, with Vista preinstalled, so the hardware is per chance a lot more advantageous positive than your XP gadget. more advantageous RAM and a faster processor will outcome in faster performance, no remember what anybody says about Vista, with the right hardware it isn't a nasty OS.
