When I turn my laptop on, I get the black screen to run in safe mode etc. and even when I select that, I cant get Windows XP to open at all. Any ideas on how I can get a command prompt tp be able to run chkdsk? Remember, I cant het into Windows at all.

Put your OS disk in as see if you can force you way in with that. If that doesn't work, Try using linux to run a disk check.

Get Ubuntu 8.10 make sure its the live CD version (as most are) and It will run straight off the CD. Ubuntu should have a disk chk option some where in it. Ubuntu isn't to complex. If you are decent in XP you will figure out how to use this linux disk. If you still cant figure out, email me.
