I have 1 hard drive with 2 partitions: One is my C: drive and the other is a B: drive. The C: drive is the primary partition. I wanted to extend the space on my B: drive, so I shrunk the C: drive 40GB. Now I have 40GB of unallocated space. When I go to extend my B: drive, the Extend Drive option is disabled. However, the Extend Drive button is enabled for my C: drive (primary partition). Is there a way to transfer my unallocated space to the non-primary partition (B: drive) or can it only be transferred to the primary partition (C: drive)?

your going to need to extend the Extended Partition (that the Logical Partition B: is in) first

then you can extend B: within it

in other words: Logical Partitions are within Extended Partitions - B: is a logical partition

if you have problems doing it I suggest you use gParted - it's a free Linux based partitioning utility - you boot up into the CD so none of your paritions are mounted (in use) while you're messing with them

You mean you used the Windows Disk Management shrunk your C: drive? If so, I guess you are running Windows7? Vista? Or Windows Server 2008? And you faced the common problem that the majority users met. Unless the unallocated space you shrunk from C: drive is behind B: drive, the DM can provide the valid option for you to extend your B: drive.

So, the third party tool like Aomei Partition Assistant can help you move the unallocated space behind B: partition and then extend B:. If you are running Windows7 or Vista 32bit, the free partition manager can help you realize the work.

But, if you are running server 2007, it seems only server partition magic can help you:

Certainly, if your os is windows7 or vista 64bit, the professional edition also can give you a hand:

Good luck, hope you can extend your B: drive as you wish.
