It freezes out of no where and if i wait for hours it'd still be frozen.
So far i have downloaded a registry cleaner and cleaned some files, uninstalled a game that caused a lot of MB, and checked for a virus using avast and i had no viruses.
What could be the problem?

The only working way iv come across without trying to fix it my self then getting little problems here and there I think ur best bet is to backup ur pictures videos music documents and what ever else u want to keep and do a complete system re instalation, in the long run its easier has longs u put on ur anti virus before using ur internet, I'd recommend microsoft security essentials, this way ur computers like new , just like learnin from ur mistakes :-) u will no what to install and what not to, u should also try getting an ad blocker for ur internet :-)

Fragmented memory space can be the issue. Clear of all the extra applications that you don’t need in start-ups. Defrag computer’s memory, clean cache and junk codes or files that are no longer in use. Free some of the memory space and check for virus infection again (if the problem persists). You can do so with the help of some other antivirus applications like Norton, Immunet, Kaspersky, bitdefender, Avira etc (use any one of them). Hope this will help.

Have your tried raising the thermostat? ;-)

It depends upon many factors: which registry cleaner did you use? Is it reliable?

I suggest trying this tool:

Open Event viewer and see if you can find any events at the time the freezes happen or when it "thaws" which shed some light on things.

First thing is to make sure the fans and vents are clean and clear. Get a couple cans of compressed air and blow out the vents and fans. The best way to blow the fan and heat sink is to blow the air into the exhaust vents. Hold your hand over the vents and find which one is blowing air out. It is normally the one you can see one the side or back of the laptop. With the laptop off, you can place the laptop on a towel upside down so you can see the inlet vent and place the tube from the can of compressed air at the exhaust vent. Press the trigger on the can and move the tube back and forth across the outlet vent. Make sure you can feel the air coming out of the inlet vent. If you have someone to help, you can get them to hold a vacuum hose near the inlet vent while you're blowing air in the outlet vent to help catch the dust coming out. You can find some good videos on YouTube on how to keep a laptop clean.

Some virus can get in your puter and then hide from your current AV. If you want to be sure, scan your puter in safe mode.

It is important to run both ESET and Malwarebytes, what one might miss the other will catch.

First try Malwarebytes in safe mode. When you press the power button, start tapping the F8 key. When you see the advance boot options window select safe mode with networking. When it boots to the desktop then click the link below. Download and install the free version and do a complete deep scan of your system. If it finds anything and it can not stop and delete it you will need RKIll to kill it.

If Malwarebytes does not find anything then try ESET online scanner to check for a virus. The first link is the online scanner. You need to USE IE while in the safe mode with networking to run it. The second link explains it.

Check it for hardware problems.

Since you did not list the make, model and OS this is a generic answer. Some or all of it might help you.

When you press the power button start tapping the F key that is for your puter and the BIOS menu will open. Select diagnostics if you have one and test everything to find any errors. Not all system come with diagnostic in the BIOS. If it does not have diagnostic if the BIOS you can use the info at the bottom of the page to try to run diagnostics on it. If the hard drive fails or it says you do not have a hard drive, then you're going to have to get a new one and order the recovery DVD from the manufacturer.

Once you have backed up what you need you can reload your OS.

If you have a brand name puter and a recovery partition then you can use the info below to reset it back to factory settings.

If your resetting a lappy, make sure you have the AC adapter plugged up. You do not want this process interrupted. This should take one or two hours. It is best to check on it to make sure everything is going fine.

If you can not boot into Windows then try Advanced boot options. When you press the power button, start tapping the F8 key. You will see the advance boot menu. Select repair your computer. (This option is available only if the tools are installed on your computer's hard disk.) Select your language and then enter your user name and password. Then click on (brand name) factory Image Restore and next. Answer the question and it should start the recovery back to factory settings.

If you can not access the advance boot options then try recovery from the recovery partition.

When you press the power button start tapping the F key that is for your puter and the BIOS menu will open, select the recovery mode. This will reset your puter back to factory settings.

Manufacturers BIOS menu F key

HP/Compaq ESC

ASUS Del

Sony F2

Samsung F4

Gateway, eMachines F10

Acer, Dell, Fijitsu, Gigabyte, Toshiba F12

This is what a BIOS menu will looks like. Yours might be different, I am posting this one to give you an idea of what to look for.

F1 = System Info

F2 = System Diagnostic

F9 = Boot Device options

F10 = BIOS Setup

F11 = System recovery

Secondary method for running diagnostics.

If it is not a brand name puter or does not have diagnostic in the BIOS, then you will need to download a program to test your puter hardware. Either of the CD below can test the puter for you. They are bootable CD that run on Linux and have complete test programs on them. It does take some puter knowledge to use them.

You can use this program to burn the ISO you download to a CD.
