It's a quad core... you should be fine to play just about anything. The reason for the 8 times in a row is it has 8 threads. Great processor!

The Intel Core i7 Processor is a top of the line quad-core processor.
The games you're referring to are probably referring to dual-core processors.
A 1.73 ghz i7 is significantly faster than a 2.4 ghz i3.
Don't worry, you're good to go.

If you're looking at a processor, you need to compare its clock speed and the number of cores and other technologies it boasts like hyper threading.
When buying a computer, compare ram, the graphics card memory and processor and price and go for the one with the highest numbers that fits your budget.
Processor suggestions here, ( if you have any questions ask the staff by contacting them):
Your processor IS VERY VERY VERY Good enough to play any games release today.
Just please try to update your graphic card if its a old one. Also try to update RAM up to 4 GB.
You can play 100% games if you have above.

I'd be more worried about your graphics card.

When it comes to a Windows laptop, you (usually) do get what you pay for. So yes, you have a pretty decent laptop.
p.s. I hope you have a terrific video card inside, too.

you have the 720qm if memory serves. you have 4 physical cores with hyper threading for a total 8 (4 physical + 4 logical.) you have one of the fastest mobile cpus on the market. any game will run on that machine for at least 4 years to come. i have that same cpu in my machine and run black ops and bfbc2 without any problem. you're good, theres is noting to worry about.
