i've had my desktop for a little over a year now and it's become so slow. something i'm wondering is if my processor is actually an intel core 2 duo? if it is, shouldn't my computer be faster? i've done a disk clean-up and tried to disable some programs from starting up w/ windows but nothing really helped. most of the space on my computer as u can see on the c drive are pictures and a few movies. is that the only problem that is slowing down my computer? if that's the only reason then i can go buy an external HD for my pictures and movies... but if that isn't the case i'd like to know.. bc under task manager it says my memory isn't being used 100% but my cpu usage is like always at 100%. what are my options to get my computer running fast? more ram? new processor? thanks in advance!

Using a registry cleaner can clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some registry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".

Every time you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Registry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!

There are some comparison and review of TOP 5 registry cleaners.

If your virus/spyware free, there are a couple things you can do get your computer working faster. If you using your computer for normal stuff and not gaming. You don't always need more RAM you just need to perform a few maintenance task.

First, if you haven't cleaned your registry in a while. This is necessary. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events produces a key. That key needs your PC's resources and free space. So, if you clean your registry, you make more resources available for speed. Do a registry scan if you got more than 20 errors you should clean it.

2. Clear your Windows cache files, this is your temporary file. It can grow up to a large volume and stop your computer from using RAM properly. In a sense slow it down by preventing it from using free space. Here is how:

1. Quit Internet Explorer, Firefox, or any other web browser

2. Click Start, click "Control Panel", and then double-click "Internet Options".

3. On the General tab, click "Delete Files" under Temporary Internet Files.

4. In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the "Delete all offline content" check box , and then click OK.

5. Click OK.

3. Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by alter your msconfig. Here is how:

1. Open your Start menu.

2. Click Run

3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe"

4. In the "system configuration utility",click either "service" or "startup" tab

5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.

6. Click "OK"

I can sense your frustration. I have had the same problem in the past.

Some uninstallers for Windows software do not completely remove all traces of the software from the registry. It is possible that these traces may interfere with performance or have other negative impacts. Using a registry cleaner is a way to get rid of these bits. The registry cleaner scans the registry, and picks out the unnecessary and/or damaged pieces and deletes/repairs them.

There are many registry cleaners on the market today... you can look at some reviews of the top selling products here... http://registrycleanupsoftware.com/reviews.html

One of these products solved my problem.

There is also a terrific book called "The PC Secret Formula". It is very comprehensive and will guide you thru a step by step process of optimizing and securing your PC. This resource is really top notch. I had to dig around to find the link to it but I finally found it... http://askfirstmarketing.com/evaluates/PCSecretFormula

Hope this helps

Some program is taking taking up all your processing power, so that's the issue here, it has nothing to do with space presumably.

Some anti virus programs can cause this to happen sometimes, Norton anti virus is especially bad for it. What kind of anti virus software do you use?

Also if you click on where it says CPU twice in the task manager under processes it will order your processors showing which ones are using the CPU most. If it shows a program that is running very high then that's your culprit and you should probably close the program. If nothing shows up its probably your anti virus software.

Good suggestions from the above poster. It could also be a registry problem. There are a ton of free registry solutions available. My favorite is Eusing Registry repair. It's worth a try.

It's available as a freeware solution. You can download it below, under free utilities.
