Question:
PC build, any bottlenecks/futureproof?

MOBO: MSI 970a-g46
CPU: AMD FX-6300 six core 3.5ghz
GPU: Nvidia GTX 760 2gb
RAM : 8 -16 gb ddr3 (havn't picked one yet but not very important for question)
HDD : 1tb 7200 rpm whatever (again not too important)
PSU: 750 watt (has all connetions needed for sli ect)

Now, I know this motherboard supports SLI and I plan on possibly getting another 760 and doing that. The question is will there be bottlenecking issues then, and how well does this MOBO/CPU work with SLI?

Also as a side question, will 750 watts cover the build with SLI? (I think so but dosn't hurt to ask)

theres nothing really wrong with the cpu, but like aaron said, amd uses much less efficient architecture than intel. a 6300 will suffice, however I recommend a 6350 for a couple bucks more and a decent speed boost which hopefully will have enough power to support 2 760s.

as for ram just get 8gb of 1866 or 2133 ram as its all you need with that setup.

for the hard drive try to stick with a western digital caviar black if you can and if you cant look at hitachi, a nationwide datacenter released an article that placed most reliable drives by manufacturer, hitachi was #1, WD was #2 with less than 10% failures and seagate and everything else was much, much higher 20-40% failure rate

Looks like your on the right track with this setup. I always recommend as many fans 120mm or larger that you can possibly fit in the case, with a front panel mounted speed controller for most of the fans. the CPU fan should run off the PWM 4 pin header. If you install another video card in the future your twin video cards may not sound like a jet engine with the additional air cooling. 750 watts is just about the perfect size for this build. I only use CRUCIAL RAM made by Micron in all my builds. My second choice is Kingston. I hope I have been of some help. My first build was a Intel 486DX100 in 1992 and it was nearly identical in speed and power to the first Pentium 60 and 66 that came out a few months later.

MOBO:

The Mobo you have mentioned has a AMD 970 chipset, the latest amd chipset is 990 / 990FX (AFAIK) since you want the build to be future proof i would recommend you to get a 990 based chipset. Get Asus M5A99FX Pro2.0 its a nice board, Also get asus or Asrock brand mobo.

You got a nice gpu, but the mobo is a bad or poor choice when it comes to sli a high end card. chk this

If you are budget, get M5A97 but if you are planning to sli / crossfire get a board with 990/990fx chipset.

970 chipset boards don't support sli/crossfire. The second card may not be running in its full potential or bottleneck when SLI or Crossfired.

CPU:

6300 is a good choice if you are on budget. if money is not a constrain get a FX 8350/8320 ->8 core cpu.

RAM:

Get atleast 4gb 1600/1866 Mhz ram with a CAS latency 9. 8gb should suffice unless your priority is heavy video editing or memory intense applications. Corsair vengeance (Red) or G.Skill Ripjaws

Get 7200rpm HDD. Also if you want your apps n os to load much faster get a SSD they are bit costly but worth every penny spent on it they also get longer lifetime compared to hdd.

750 watts should be good. but i am not sure it may be a little bit of overkill (ruling out overclocking). If you are overclocking even a 750 watts wont suffice along with SLI.

ON SHORT:

Get a 990 or 990fx based mobo. Gpu is a good choice

Get FX 8 core if you are not on budget.

Get 1600/1866 Mhz RAM with CAS 9

Get a Branded PSU like Corsir TX series or Seasonic

Good Luck on your build

Hope This Helps you...

Yeah you will be fine if all you are doing is gaming. So yeah also bitcoin mining would run fine as well. But yeah this is a nice build. I have some of the parts like the processor and motherboard with 12gb of ram and a radeon 7870 so it should be great... Have fun!

No bottle necks but i would be looking at an i7 at least .

It should work in SLI well.

The PSU would work but i would seriously consider an i5 .

You'll get more fps out of the card with a Core i5 or i7, than with that AMD processor. WEAK architecture is pushing those 6 cores...
