Any recommendations on what type of computer (like particular companies) and parts (like RAM, processor, hard drive, video card etc) I should purchase for my career in Web Development? I am willing to spend up to $1,800.

Thank you for your time!!

I do this also. I would say get a duel core whatever you do. Also make sure you have all the ram you can get, atleast 2gb but more will be helpfull. Get 2 hard drives. Here is why. Do all of your work on the non os hard drive. BUT back up all of your work to the os hard drive like in my documents. This way if anything happens you will more than likely not loose any of your work. I do a good bit of web design work and I am always looking for good web picyures and clipart and codes. I save everything I think I may be able to use at some point. You will want to do the same. So make sure the 2 hard drives are as large as you can afford.

Hope I was sme help

For web design, a PC since it's a bit easier to code in the simplicity of notepad anyway. For graphic design, a Mac would be better, although even I do most of my graphic design on my PC.

As a web designer you would not have to go to a high budget. As a brand i prefer pcs so go with HP or Custom made.

Specs (suggested)

RAM: 2GB

Hard Drive: atleast 250 GB

Processor: Intel core duo 2 (2.5 GHz)

Video card: Nvidia 8600 GT

Power Supply: 500 W (in case you want to upgrade later)

I wish you good luck.if you need additional help I am willing to help you.

Determine what software and tasks you will be performing before picking the hardware to do it with.

If you are responsible for your own hardware, you should probably build your own PC , which is really not all that hard. Building your own will pay off handsomely by giving you the knowledge to pretty much support the hardware you will be depending on for your income.

What platform/server OS are you developing for? If Windows/IIS, then get a Windows machine. If it's for Apache and MySQL, then get Mac or Linux. In the case, of Windows and Mac, get plenty of RAM.

People say MAC is more user friendly or go with an HP.
